Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 You can try calling orange and see what they say, I presume you do not have Orange care insurance? If you do take it apart yourself you will invalidate your warranty.
Guest fluffcat1 Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 (edited) ,Sep 14 2005, 16:18]If you do take it apart yourself you will invalidate your warranty. Not if you're careful...you don't need the main board out of the chassis to change the cover, so you don't need to remove the screw with the warranty sticker over it. I'm changing a cover on a c550 later this week, I'll post pics. Richard Edited September 14, 2005 by fluffcat1

BTW No i do not have the orange care insurance how ever i do have the 3 months free insurance that comes with the phone when you buy it from mobileshop...would this help? if it dose then what do i do....lol you must think im dum...well i am! :| EDIT! "I've just spoken to an Orangey person on the phone re problems with my C500. She advises that the phone has a 12 month guarantee anyway- 6 months covered by Orange and 6 months by the manufacturer as per Sale of Goods Act. Seeing as the Theft and loss clauses are so tight I'm now going to cancel my Orange Care £60- not worth it." Thats what one of you guys said on a post i found on this site. So what dose this mean in my case? Edited September 14, 2005 by kasun

Plus you usually have to pay an excess, £15 with orange, upto £50 with other policy providors... Richard

Guest datasamm Posted September 28, 2005 Report Posted September 28, 2005 I bought an SPV C550 but I had a little dust problem with my E100 so what I did to protect dust getting into the screen of my C550 was to cut a little bit of celetape and put it on the speaker. Its not that visible because I cut it to size and it doesn't really affect when it comes to talking on the phone. §amm :]
Guest usdiver Posted September 28, 2005 Report Posted September 28, 2005 Hi, I don't wish to offend anyone here, only trying to help. First, if you have not taken it apart yet, DON'T. Call HTC Europe and tell them about the problem. The c500's had a dust problem issue and it IS a warranty issue...UNLESS you take it apart yourself. Best thing is call them and give them your imei number and expain the problem. I've had really good experience from them and they are a lot more helpful than Orange. As far as tape goes, no one should have to use tape on anything to fix a problem. If it's getting dust in it, then something is wrong with it anyway. go to www.htceurope.com or 08712230217

You can open it yourself without voiding the warranty and clean it in under 30 minutes. As for ringing them, you have to leave a message and they get back to you a few days later, and from the calls I've had regarding a silver battery cover the people who call back are not very technically literate. Better to email I find. Richard
Guest usdiver Posted September 28, 2005 Report Posted September 28, 2005 Richard is right as for them having the phone and the answering machine...however, I've seen it take less than a week before for an in warranty repair. You want to speak to Tim Morvan, or ask for him in the email. Even if you can clean it yourself and not void the warranty, you still are not fixing the problem of why is dust getting in it to start with. IMHO it wouldn't be good enough to spend that much money on a new phone and then find dust is getting in it. Only trying to help...but it's up to you as far as how to deal with it... 8)
Guest slider Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 Orange WILL replace for dust under the screen, they even have a default route for replacment as a known issue in there case base systems (Or so i'm told :-) ) and i know of a few people who have had them replaced for this very issue.. it's worth getting on the phone to orange support and quizzing them about it... you just need to get onto an operator that cares about solving the issue, and not just one who's trying hard to score brownie points by handling as many calls as they can in there alloted time slot... Of course.. i didn't tell you that, and i only know what iv'e been told by friends on the inside.. :-) Hope this helps...

Guest 1T-M0nk3y Posted September 30, 2005 Report Posted September 30, 2005 (edited) Nearly true, but not quite. Check here for the actual legislation. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Taken from above for ease: Aspects of quality include fitness for purpose, freedom from minor defects, appearance and finish, durability and safety. Q4. I know I can demand my money back within a "reasonable time" but how long is that? The law does not specify a precise time as it will vary for most sales contracts as all the factors need to be taken into account to be fair to all sides. The pair of everyday shoes may only have a few days before the period expires but a pair of skis, purchased in a Summer Sale, may be allowed a longer period by a court. If a phone is sold to you on a 12 or 18 month contract, the vendor is indicating it's suitability for use over the time frame if used for what it is intended (i.e if you use it to make calls & play songs etc, not if you use it as a goal post down the park!) Another useful pointer is that if a vendor (eg Dixons) offer you an extended warranty of, say, 3 or 5 years, they are implying that they expect the product to last at least that long (else they wouldn't offer the warranty) - If you ask for a written quote of the extended warranty but do not decide to take it out, you are almost always covered for that length of time under the Sale of Goods act - while saving yourself a packet! :o EDIT You are not automatically covered for consumable items, or for parts which are expressly exempt in the extended warranty though.
