Guest Xethmir Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 Every time you get a text message on the m500 it beeps and the whole text is displayed in a bubble. If someone is holding your phone (which is often cos its so cool, of course) and it beeps, they instantly read your text naturally. Does Microsoft not expect its users to have any privacy?! Surely there is a workaround (I've looked in the registry a little but no luck so far). Anybody else have any thoughts?

Start>Settings>Sounds & Notifications>Notifications>New Text Message> Uncheck "Display Message"
Guest Tech Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 another thing to add is that its got nothing to do with Microsoft... its to do with the ROM's MS give the OS to the mobile manufacturers which they configure for their use which then goes down to the network provider on how they wish to configure their ROMS!
Guest Disco Stu Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 Always remember that the CIA, MI5 etc have already read the message and they know what those words mean
Guest Xethmir Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 Haha, yeah I see where you're coming from though I can't imagine Orange changing *too* many default values. But all that aside, thanks a bundle for that info. Really made the m500 easier to live with!
Guest Funster Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 I really wanted to know how to avoid this also, so thanks a bunch AaronSoup, much appreciated. Funster
Guest Pondrew Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 Moved to Pocket PC Help & Advice Section. (I assume you did mean M500 and not M5000 as this was in the HTC Universal section?! :o )
Guest Palindrome Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 I totally understand about the privacy issue but I do like the message popping up on the screen. Obviously I'm very careful not to let the girlfriend use my phone when I'm expecting a message from the mistress. :o

Honest! :o P.S. thanks for moving the post - sorry for the inconvenience, it's all a bit confusing!
Guest mupwangle Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 Simple solution - where a tin-foil hat. That'll stop 'em.
