Guest revolution.cx Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 When I allow WMP10 to sync my SMT5600's storage card it insists on filling the card completely without leaving a single bit of space for other uses. I have searched and not only can't I find a solution I haven't found anyone else complaining about this. Before I cook up my own solution I thought I'd ask here first. So, any thoughts?
Guest revolution.cx Posted September 17, 2005 Report Posted September 17, 2005 OK, how about an easier question: Does anyone else have this problem? Do you find it annoying? When I allow WMP10 to sync my SMT5600's storage card it insists on filling the card completely without leaving a single bit of space for other uses. Guest dolphinsmile Posted September 17, 2005 Report Posted September 17, 2005 This happens because with Windows Media Player 10 on your PC the default setting is to, automatic synch. When you open WMP10 on the PC press on the sync tab then set-up sync. You can now change it to manual and it won’t fill your memory card each time you connect the phone to the PC. Since changing to the WMP10 rom on the c500 I’ve never had any sync issues.
Guest revolution.cx Posted September 17, 2005 Report Posted September 17, 2005 Good idea, except that means that I'll have to manually pick which files to sync which I don't want to do. And even when I'm manually picking I'll still have to figure out what is and isn't going to fit. I've grown to quite like the autosync feature which cycles music through the device pretty well. I'm working on a little Smartphone improvement program right now and I'm trying to gauge if people would be interested in a feature that keeps a certain amount of space free from WMP sync. Guest revolution.cx Posted September 20, 2005 Report Posted September 20, 2005 The autosync in WMP10 will basically fill the device for you automatically based on what's new, what you've rated, etc. I haven't been using it for too long but so far it does a good job of putting music on the phone that I like and getting rid of stuff that I don't. Kind of like the iPod shuffle autosync. Even if you manually pick your own playlist if it's too big for the device WMP will dutifully fill up the storage card trying to put it all on. Guest graham_charles Posted November 20, 2005 Report Posted November 20, 2005 You can create a playlist in WMP 10 that automatically is limited to a certain size -- 100 MB, say -- and then will change every day. Then make that your automatic sync. Guest cjhinpa Posted November 22, 2005 Report Posted November 22, 2005 I will watch this thread to see what you come up with. I cannot even get WM10 to see more than about 150k of space on my SMT5600. I have had to resort to copy paste through Activesync which is unuseably slow. I bacically can't use my 1 GB storage card for MP3's until I can figure out how to get this sync to work inside WM10 on the PC. Any advice appreciated. I have searched and not found the answer yet. I can see the Storage card everywhere else, just not in WM10. Chris
Guest adchaffey Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 Yeah, I've got a playlist in WMP10 which I've called "Smartphone Playlist". It picks all music rated 4 stars or above, randomises the order and limits the list to 200mb (for my 256mb storage card). Should solve your problem, although I had no end of problems with the actual sychronising on my C500. Most of the time it would lock WMP10 and sometimes my phone after about 3 or 4 tracks. Other times it would just say that the tracks would not fit on the device, despite there being more than 200mb free! Anyway, got a wizard now and active sync 4.1, so fingers crossed it will work now. pretty neat feature if it worked!
Guest graham_charles Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 What "wizard" --- something third-party? Anyway, got a wizard now and active sync 4.1, so fingers crossed it will work now. pretty neat feature if it worked! <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Guest adchaffey Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 What "wizard" --- something third-party? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sorry, the Wizard is the latest Pocket PC from HTC. It's also known as the MDA Vario from T-Mobile, or the K-Jam or Qtek 9100. But I still haven't got round to really trying the synchronising. I'll see how it goes later today.

I use the latest MS Windows Media 10 on that machine. I use a Windows Mobile 2003 Smartphone. I use MS Activesynch to connect the two. Despite the use of 100% Microsoft products, I still experience lock-ups when downloading music to my phone. At some point during the download, the phone will lock-up, stalling the download. All screen savers and other potential interuptions are inactive. When this happens, I must disconnect the phone and remove the battery to get the phone going again, since it is unresponsive to all button input. With this "soft reset" completed, I can re-dock the phone and pick up the sync where it got stuck in WM10. It might go for another few songs or it might go 50 more songs, but it will lock-up again before I am finished the synch. I may need to repeat this process 5 or 6 times to load the full 150+ songs to fill my MinSD. Anybody else having this problem who has found a solution which allows the thing to take on a full load of music without all this babysitting? Any advice gratefully appreciated! Thanks! Chris H.

Chris H. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well my only solution so far is to get a pocket pc with Windows Mobile 5! My MDA Vario is working perfectly. Synchronises to fill the entire mini sd card without a single interuption, but not much of a solution i know!
Guest graham_charles Posted January 4, 2006 Report Posted January 4, 2006 I had the same problem (with a 1GB card), and it was solved completely when I reformatted the card. Unfortunately, my SMT5600 has no utility to do that, so I had to buy one called "SP Task Manager." I suppose if I had an external card reader that would have done it, too.
