Guest AbeFroman Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 Hi everyone! Just got a c550 yesterday and trying to work everything out. I have a few questions if anyone can help. Its listing all my contacts as sim contacts since they are saved on my sim card, how do I change these to normal contact cards so I can put in extra numbers and email addresses in, also how do I stop it showing all my sim contacts if I also have them as contact cards? I had msn and internet explorer working when the phone was linked to my computer with the usb cable but when I try and use these normally it comes up saying 'Connection Error, Error, Unable to place call' what am I doing wrong here and what settings should I be changing? thanks Colin p.s. Also is there a faq section that ive missed on here?
Guest AbeFroman Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 hi again, Got the contacts thing sorted :o Still not sure why msn and explorer arent working :(
Guest thebeachbum Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 hi there have you set up activesync? just checking
Guest Disco Stu Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 The FAQs section is in the Special Areas .....ummmm....area here Also in here is the Settings Repository although I would recommend going onto the Orange website on your PC and getting them to send the settings via SMS. Look for the Help & Advice / Setup links. You will need to phone Orange (or whoever) and enable GPRS / data on your account. That will give you internet access from your phone but expect to have troub;e logging on for the first time.
Guest AbeFroman Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 (edited) I assumed since I could get on wap site with my old phone that my account had the gprs enables? Think I read something that said since my sim was registered after a certain date gprs/data was all ready to go? Is this not right or am I talking rubbish? Its payg on orange if that makes any difference? Edited September 16, 2005 by AbeFroman
Guest martin Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 Your Orange PAYG SIM should work fine with GPRS. In settings-Data connections set 'Internet connection: Orange GPRS' In Internet Explorer, Menu-Option-Connections, tick auto detect settings. Do you still get an error with the above ?

Guest martin Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 If you change 'Internet connection: Orange WAP' do you still get the same error ?
Guest martin Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 It's possible that you have an old PAYG SIM that hasn't beed updated yet. Try going into Settings - Data Connections - GPRS connections. Change Access Point orangeinternet to payginternet Change Access Point orangewap to paygwap That could be the problem.

Is it wrth asking the people in the orange shop if im in town tomorrow? thanks again Colin Edited September 17, 2005 by AbeFroman
Guest Disco Stu Posted September 17, 2005 Report Posted September 17, 2005 My assumption was that you had to enable GPRS on your account - which is different to WAP - by request to Orange. At least this was what you had to do when I got the first SPV and my assumption then was that it had something to do with billing. They should be able to sort you out in the shop, but go easy on them :o
Guest AbeFroman Posted September 17, 2005 Report Posted September 17, 2005 Went in to the orange shop and got it working, the guy in there phoned orange who sent some sim updates and a device settings change message. I reset the phone it it came up with the G at the top of the screen and everything is working now. Does not having the G there before mean my acount wasnt set up for gprs? Colin
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 17, 2005 Report Posted September 17, 2005 Yep if you do not have the large G in the middle top of your screen will mean that your phone would not have |GPRS enabled or you are not in an area covered by GPRS.
Guest AbeFroman Posted September 17, 2005 Report Posted September 17, 2005 Thanks for the help. I'll probably be back asking more daft questions :?:
