Guest novice05 Posted September 17, 2005 Report Posted September 17, 2005 Hi all I have had a spv c550 for a couple of weeks now, i am happy with the phone but feel like i am missing out on all these features..... I previously only had a basic nokia, i have read the faq's and tried to pick a few things up.... Basically how do i do the basics like for example download music, change my background layout. This is probably going to get laughed at but like i say i really am a novice and any help would be appreciated thanks a lot
Guest dolphinsmile Posted September 17, 2005 Report Posted September 17, 2005 I think you need to read the manual first this will give the best basic training in smartphones.

Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 17, 2005 Report Posted September 17, 2005 Have a look at the FAQ section of the site, there is a post designed for the new user called The first 48 hours. It should help with installing and getting up to speed :o

For instance simple things like transfering ringtones i find on here to my phone how do i do that ? Same for music Thanks again
Guest martin Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005 First you must have Activesync loaded. You can then use the explorer option from the activesync program to access the files and directories on the smartphone. Copy files (i.e drag and drop) between explorer sessions as you would normally :o I usually copy ringtone files to the smartphone directory \Storage Card\My Documents. Have you made your own music files ? BTW The arcticles section is another good place to find some cool things :( http://www.modaco.com/Smartphone_Articles-f18.html
Guest Disco Stu Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005 From the 'First 48 Hours' FAQ : Where do i put ringtones on my spv? If you are wishing to put ringtones on your phone (not the sd card) then put them in IPSMApplication DataSounds Note: You may have to create the Sounds folder as it is not present on brand new phones or after a Hard Reset. Well maybe that's not all that clear. Connect your phone to your PC with ActiveSync and when it has finished syncing click on My Smartphone. Now double-click on Storage, Application Data, Sounds. Copy & paste your ringtone files into here and they will show up in Settings, Sounds. The Storage folder was named IPSM in the 2002 OS and the Sounds folder is now a permanent fixture :o

Thanks
Guest Disco Stu Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005 If you have the Orange CD then just stick it in the tray and let it run. Follow the instructions carefully and don't connect your phone till it tells you. If you don't have the CD, get ActiveSync here. The next time you connect your phone AS will fire up automatically. Oh, and it is pre-installed on the phone.

Guest Disco Stu Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005 Well I don't use it for emails much either and I don't really use Outlook on my PC for anything. However, and it's a big however, what you are getting is a full backup of your Calendar & Contacts etc which, if anything goes wrong, and it surely will, will be a life-saver. So I would create a partnership :o

Guest Disco Stu Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005 You should have the ActiveSync window open on your PC screen. If you haven't got the 'My Smartphone' icon showing then click on Explore and see my post 7 above.

Guest Disco Stu Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005 I'm still here but that ironing isn't getting done ! :o Have another read of the 'First 48 Hours' thread which I updated a bit earlier. There are various ways of installing homescreens depending on what you've downloaded. Sounds like you're clicking on the ringtone files. Just right-click once on them and select copy. Now go to the AS window and browse to the Sounds folder.

Guest Disco Stu Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005 Oh hang on, we're missing a stage here. Right-click the ringtone file on MoDaCo and choose 'Save Link As' (or Save File As in Internet Explorer ?) and click the mouse. Now choose where to download to on your PC - My Documents is good. Click OK or whatever. Now file should show up in your My Docs folder on your PC. Now copy & paste onto phone.

Guest novice05 Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005  :( <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have now managed to get one new home screen superb stuff, and now no how to get text message tones Stu tommorow night i am trying to get music on my mobile (task 1) and also the ringtones which i presume is fairly similar to text message tones. Thanks a million and ill let u get back to your ironing pile :o
Guest Disco Stu Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005 I would recommend getting a USB card reader for transferring music files. It will make things a lot quicker and the transfer will be more stable than with AS. You can get them for under £10 from computer shops etc.
Guest Pondrew Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005 Got a pile of ironing myself but gotta be up at 0500 for work and can't be bothered tonight. Stu, when you're done there any chance you could do mine as well?! :o :(

Stu, when you're done there any chance you could do mine as well?! :o :( <{POST_SNAPBACK}> your worst nightmare is back... transfered a music file over last night, it appears on media player the only problem is i cant hear it ! Turn it up i hear u say ! i have it turned up as loud as it appears it can be ? What am i missing here/ Also on the spv c550 is it possible to listen to radio? Thanks a lot again stu or anybody
Guest mupwangle Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 >>Also on the spv c550 is it possible to listen to radio? Windows smartphones don't usually come with radios (unless I missed something!) The only way to do it is over the net but that costs a fortune!!! >>Turn it up i hear u say ! i have it turned up as loud as it appears it can be ? What am i missing here/ Obvious things to check - check that it is actually playing and not on pause (i know that's kinda obvious!) Check that other sounds on your phone work OK - ringtones and so on - as the volume on the phone might be down. Check the volume on media player (I think its up and down on the keypad) Other than that nothing springs to mind.
