Guest Mythak Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005 I am about to make a substantial investment and thought it would be wise to ask you guys your opinion. I don’t really have any budget restraints. I am looking for a phone that works on the gsm 850mhz system because I live in aslaka ( gsm 850mhz system is the only carrier on my island) for 6 months of the year and the other 6 months i travel. I am thinking a quad band might be worth the extra investment since i travel as well. I like to surf the web, send emails, gps location is a bonus, i'd love to run www.automatedliving.com HAL software if possible. I am a computer nut and tweak everything, use to work for microsoft, system engineer, etc... If it would be possible to tie in an RFID reader that would be pimp :o I was looking at the smt5600 smart phone because its cheap and slam packed with goodies. It could hold me over until the 3g 300i samsung came out or i went for something like the new imate jasjar or pda2k. But i have also been looking at the imate and qtek series... Wifi is nice but not a must, bluetooth, mp3 playing, contacts, email, web surfing, excel, word, are a must hand writing recognition would be pimp. Any recommendations :( ? Also are you able to stick a 1 gig sd disk in the smt5600 i know it takes the 512's... but i saw the 1 gigs on this site.
Guest Tech Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005 according to my knowledge there is no size restriction on the SMT5600 (C500) for miniSD storage i personally would HIGHLY recommend the C500 (SMT5600) bcos of its beauti sexy style and its highly reliable. best design HTC have ever made (or audiovox if your in the states) but thats just my opinion in november/end of october there will be an M500 (or M5000 cant remember which now) which has 3G but still unknown what OS will be on it but they reckon it will be Windows XP Embedded (interesting since it should be WM5 on it...)
Guest Mythak Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005 Thanks appreciate the info. the c550 seems interesting and the m500. what aout the c600? Though i really need sometihng now... my work needs to keep n touch with me. Also can anyone explain the differnce between the differnt methods of unlocking phones. there is the bootloader and through codes from the os... or something... Is there a big enough differnce between the c500 and the c550 to pay the differnce? Also any opinions on the pda2k? im tempted to just splurge for it
Guest Mythak Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005 (edited) argh the spv c500 and c550 i cant go with cause they are tri band.. no 850mhz... blah! audiovox smt5600 or imate pda2k.... will i be able to upgrade these to windows mobile 5.0 ? Edited September 18, 2005 by Mythak
Guest Tech Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005 audiovox smt5600 IS C500 (just different names) and no is the answer about upgrading the OS, as its only shipped with the phone and no upgrades are usually given from the network provider C550 is really nothing different - just a faster proc and hotkeys for WMP! :o C600 hasnt been released to my knowledge... well not in the UK anyway
