Windows Mobile 5...

Hi.

I haven't been around Modaco for a while. I was just wandering what the latest news is on Windows Mobile 5? Is it going to be release by Orange or not? I did a quick forum search which yielded no useful results.

Orange will release the SPV M5000 (HTC Universal) with WM05 but will not provide updates to existing devices.

Eten have said they will provide an update for their M500 as have some other PDA manufacturers.

I imagine Orange will install the OS on all new Smartphones / PPC devices as they roll out in the last quarter of this year.

Should be able to lay this to rest gents. After a bit of searching I've found a screenshot of the HTC Universal's device info screen proving it is running Windows Mobile 5.

Trust us Tech when we say Orange are not going to suddenly produce an HTC Universal with a unique operating system...

It makes no sence to me... Windows XP on a PPC... I very much doubt it.

So, is that a 'no' on getting a ROM update for my M2000?

What about the new WMP? is that available anywhere (legally) or do you need WM2005 to run it?

If you mean specifically for the Blue Angel, Windows Media Player 10 is now included in the latest I-Mate, Qtek, and O2 Asia roms (as far as I know). There HAVE been suggestions however that new Orange SPV M2000s are being shipped with a new Orange rom that includes it.

i completly understand what you mean guys about the OS. I DO hope its WM2005. XP Embedded can be run on such devices but with great difficulty

Orange dont really know what the heck is happening... wish they would all be up to date internally on what's what rather than giving false information/incorrect information

I DO hope WM05 is on it.

I basically asked orange for the new upcoming SPV Device (M5000/500) and what OS it will have it:

"oh it will be a big cost even for an upgrade for the handset and it will have XP Embedded, and orange have no plans to include WM05 on future handsets until we have tested, next year, that it will work with out network carrier"

er.... it DOES and WILL run on the network carrier.. the OS is for the handset... it will be the SAME signals etc... used for incoming/sending data...

so i really dont know.

but again, hope it will come with WM05 because I am up for the handset as it will be 3G and will have wifi.... :o
