Auto-clear Temporary Internet Files

I was about to uninstall some stuff over the weekend because my M500 was showing very little memory for Storage/Programs, but before I did it I checked Sprite Space Detective to see where it had all gone.

Sprite didn't show anything much, and only listed 13.5Kb as temp internet files, but 38Mb for the Windows folder.

I'd stumbled on this before, so I checked \Windows\Profiles\Guest\Temporary Internet Files and found there was over 11Mb of cahced junk in there.

So 2 things:

1) Check that folder if you're running low on memory

2) Is there some way to clear it automatically every N days, or on a Soft Reset or something?

I don't know of a way to automatically clear the cache, but you can move the cache out of main memory if you would like to. I have mine set to cache in SafeStore--I believe you can cache to an SD card also. You need to edit the registry to do it. I found all the information in (EDIT: see forum rules regarding other forums). I can post it here if you need me to.

@Scottb, if you could post the info here, in a new thread if you want, please do. Unfortunately the forum rules don't allow linking to other forums.

Here's how to change the location and the size of the cache. I suppose if you want, you can just leave it in main memory and limit the size. By default, I believe the limit is 20Mb--I wonder who came up with that number on a pocket PC that has 64Mb to start with!

\HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentV ersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\

Change cache from \Windows\Profiles\guest\Temporary Internet Files

to \safestore\internet\cache

Change cookies from from \Windows\Profiles\guest\Cookies

to \safestore\internet\cookies

Change History from \Windows\Profiles\guest\History

to \safestore\internet\history

Limit the size of the cache:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\Cache\Content

Change CacheLimit from 19568 to 3072 (or whatever you want it to be)

Thanks scottb!

Just shrunk my Cache size, will probably move it to Storage too!

[edit]

I've shrunk my cache to 2Mb, and moved the whole bally lot onto Storage

Only question is - what if IE tries to write 2Mb and there isn't that much space on Storage
