Guest tsutton Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 (edited) The normal Orange SPV C500 page here shows the 4.2.1.1 download link but when you click on it, it's 404'ing. But if you remove the filename and go to http://www.orange.co.uk/c500patch/ directly, the file download started itself (view source says it's auto redirect) The filename is TY_ORUK_255115_4212_0328_ship.exe and the filesize is 23MB Am I the first person to find the NEW version of Orange UK patch for C500? :o HOWEVER may I note something... when I run it, it says it's corrupted. So it might be my download... anyone get it and run it without any problems? Edited September 19, 2005 by tsutton
Guest simon211175 Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 did you have to reinstall the earlier patch after it said it was corrupted, or did it not get that far?

Had it since it was first mentioned on these boards last week (sep 9th), I got the corrupt message after trying to install it too(?), worked fine on the phone the second time. Guest tsutton Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 Thanks, wasn't aware it was already posted. :o
Guest Tech Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 i wouldnt recommend it for alot of reasons, even orange say this and said it would void the warentee if you continue to upgrade the ROM since its not officially on the proper page!
Guest cubik Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 I downloaded and installed this update just after it was first found (thanks to modaco) and didn't experience any issues with the installation. However, once issue that seems to have carried across from the previous 4.2.1.1 version is an awful clicking noise from the earpiece (or headphones) whenever a key is pressed. I don't know if anyone else has experinced it, but for this reason, I'm sticking with 4.1.1.4. Other than this, everything else was as expected... even the voicemail number.

But this IS on www.orange.co.uk domain - surely that's official enough?

Guest masab Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 i have downloaded new ROM 4.2.1.2 for C500 (not 4.2.1.1)TY_ORUK_255115_4212_0328_ship.exe its working very well. no problem in installation.
Guest Tech Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 (edited) it would usually state on the page the changes in ROM but it doesnt so im guessing nothing yet... prolly just bug fixes... Edited September 23, 2005 by Tech
Guest Pondrew Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 So has anyone noted the rom versions (radio, operator, manufacturer, etc) on the 4.2.1.1 and compared it with the version numbers on the new 4.2.1.2? That'll give us an idea how wide ranging the changes are (for example, is it a different build of Windows Mobile 2003SE? I doubt it though).
Guest Tech Posted September 24, 2005 Report Posted September 24, 2005 na not a diff build of the OS... the ROM will not tamper with the OS. perhaps they are considering to enable users to update to WM2005 soon? er.. nah... doesnt sound like orange.
Guest Pondrew Posted September 24, 2005 Report Posted September 24, 2005 Wrong I'm afraid. Rom updates do often update the os with newer versions of Windows Mobile whether it's minor build changes or (very occasionally) full upgrades such as the Voq rom that updated from WM2003 to WM2003SE. The SPV C500 Smartphone update 4.2.1.1 delivered Windows Media Player 10 for the first time by updating the os. Another example is with the HTC Blue Angel Pocket PC Phones whereby roms have updated the Windows Mobile 2003SE build. To illustrate the progression: BA rom 1.3 = Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, version 4.21.1088 (Build 14132) BA rom 1.4 = Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, version 4.21.1088 (Build 15045.2.6.0)
