C500 Bluetooth Modem from XP SP2?

Hi all,

I'm having some difficulty in getting my laptop to use the bluetooth conneciton to dial GPRS from my C500 (orange).

I've got he USB part working fine, installed the USB driver, all is well, so i know my dial strings etc are all working fine

But i just can't get bluetooth working at all. I can crate the partnership, windows creates a generic bluetooth modem, but it just wont connect. Whenever I dial, it does the connect.. then does a dial, shows the *99***1# number but it just comes back with a "No Dialtone" error every time.

I know the computer is talking to the modem ok, i can go to modem properties and click "Query Modem" and see a load of AT results.

Can anyone offer any advice on getting this working?

Also i've set the advanced dial string to the +CGDCONT=1,"IP","orangeinternet"

thanks

Found a fairly good guide to using an HTC Smartphone as Bluetooth Modem here at Geekzone

Let us know if you need any further help/advice.

Thanks for the link Pondrew, unfortunatley I think the problem is with the "Modem Link" option on the C500, on that article they had an option for serial (COM1) but on the C500 i only get USB and iRDA both of which actually work fine if i use iRDA and USB. There's no other option for manual COM port selection or bluetooht on there, so i just think its down to the C500 not supporting modem over bluetooth :o

It's definately possible as I set my father's laptop and C500 up to provide GPRS over bluetooth. Will have a look to refresh my memory and post back.

Right. I've found the guide I used to set it up and refreshed my memory. The confusing part is that you won't actually need to use the Modem App on the C500. Once you've paired the laptop and C500 and done the setup on the laptop all you'll need to do is initiate the connection from the laptop.

Here's the guide step by step

I dont know what was different but that tutorial worked a treat for me, although I had the same error initially, after going through it i rebooted both phone +laptop and now it connects fine.

You sooo should put that up as a sticky :o

Thank you very much
