Bluetooth Bonding on Cingular vs AT&T vs WM2005 vs

I started out with an AT&T SMT5600 and had no problems getting it to work with my AVL BT-15 GPS unit. It permanently bonds fine without a problem.

After a year or so, the phone died so I bought a replacement Cingular SMT5600. This Cingular phone will bond with the GPS unit initially, but everytime I power off/on the GPS it loses the bond and I have to repair the two again.

I loaded up WM2005 for the heck of it on the Cingular SMT5600 and found the same bonding issue, the bond is lost after I power cycle the GPS unit.

Wondering if it was a ROM issue, I flashed my Cingular phone with the AT&T SMT5600 rom and found that my GPS was working flawlessly again. Bond remains even after power-cycling the GPS.

Anybody know why? I'd like to use WM2005 cause it seems so much more smooth, but I don't want to go thru the process of bonding everytime I need to use my GPS.
