Watching movies on my C500

Hi all,

I was thinking of purchasing a 1 gb mini SD card with the thought of being able to watch movies on my C500.

I'd love someone to talk me through the process of doing this please i.e. software needed on phone, how to transfer video/dvd etc to sd card.

Also, is this worth doing? Will the quality be bad due to the phones hardware which I can nothing about?

I've downloaded some footage from Orange before and the quality of picture and sound was very bad. I certaily couldn't watch an entire tv show like that?

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

Hi. Welcome to the forums.

There are two free programs that you can download to fit ur needs.

First download TCPMP, which is another type of media player for ur smartphone.

Then download Pocket Divx for ur computer. (you can search for all of these on google)

With Pocket Divx, you can adjust the quality and sound and everything to fit on ur smartphone. The program is used to lessen the memory by scrunching up the resolution to fit ur smartphone without losing any visual quality.

... and next time you have one of these questions, please do a search on the forums before you post this, because this question has probably been asked a hundred times already. :o

I would forget about the appalling quality of the Orange downloads.

My Leeds United clips are fine until the players start moving. Then the commentator announces a goal but I just see a blur. The sreen goes blank and then the crowd erupts as the soundtrack catches up.

Watching video on your phone using the method described above is surprisingly enjoyable when you're on the move.

Hello again.

Thanks very much for your helpful replies. Took your advice and all works very well.

Sorry for not researching my question first but I'm gonna use my newby status as an excuse

My follow on question really is more for pc advice on the above question.

Now I have the software in my C500 how on earth do I get to download one of my DVD's?

I understand the software I downloaded will play files but how do I get a copy of the DVD into a file on my PC?

If you are able to offer me advice on this can you also tell me how much dvd I could expect to get on a 1 gb card?

Many thanks in advance

Here are some instructions I posted that should help to get you started with pocketdivxencoder :o

Try coding a single chapter or a trailer first so you can get an idea of the quality and filesize that you are happy with. You can work out roughly how much data per minute is used for a particular quality setting and then estimate what the filesize would be for a 90 minute film :(

There are also many other applications like virtualdub which are great for coding videos but pocketdivxencoder is a good place to start.
