Guest alastor Posted September 24, 2005 Report Posted September 24, 2005 My C500 seems to be dead, although i have no idea why  . I took it out of my pocket and put it down, came back to it and the screen was dead and the phone wouldnt turn on...Just got it home to charge and the charging LED turns red, as it should, but the phone still doesnt power up. Tried to get the 3-colour screen and the hard reset screen up, but neither work... First thought is that the power button is broken, so is there any way to power up the phone other than the button? For example through USB? Theres loads of personal stuff on the phone that i want to keep if at all possible... Any help or other ideas greatly appreciated
Guest Tech Posted September 24, 2005 Report Posted September 24, 2005 have you tried to remove the battery for 24 hours then put it back in? After that... make sure you are charging from mains and power it on. the LED should be ORANGE not red

Looked in the manual and it said red, but its always been orange when ive charged with the phone on....
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 If the battery gets too low you can only use the mains charger, leave it connected for a few hours before attempting to power on. The USB charging can stop working if the battery is too low.

If the leaving for 24hrs doesnt work then I'll charge it overnight and see what happens. Thanks for the help guys
Guest alastor Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 (edited) Sorry for double posting... Just put the battery back in again, plugged it into the mains and tried to turn it on but nothing. Status LED is still red though, is this right? Still thinking its the power button. Makes a sort of clicking/scrunching noise when pressed, which I didnt notice it do before. Will leave it to charge overnight and try again in the morning. Any more ideas anyone? EDIT: On second thoughts the LED may be orange. I cant remember how red the red is lol... :o Edited September 25, 2005 by alastor
Guest Tech Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 lol red is just.. red. orange will be the color of the orange operator logo! :o
Guest alastor Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 Lol ok yeah i think its orange, but its a very red-y orange :?: Anyway, charging overnight didnt do anything, came back to it and found the LED still orange/red whatever colour it is, so now im guessing its not the power switch but could be the battery. What does anybody think?
Guest Tech Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 could may well be. you can buy a replacement battery for about £5-7 genuine! :o
Guest alastor Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 could may well be. you can buy a replacement battery for about £5-7 genuine! :o <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Really? Where from? All I've managed to find are cheap 600 or 900mAh knockoffs from China for that price. Best I've seen for the 1050mAh original Samsung unit is around £30. If it's one of those then I'll snap it straight up
Guest alastor Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 Sorry for double posting again... Just got the multimeter out to check the battery and its putting out 3.8v, and well over 200mA (the max reading on my cheapo meter...) so I guess it's not that that's the problem :o Getting desperate now, already cant stand using my girlfriend's old Nokia 3330. Anybody have any ideas at all? Oh and the warranty is void  because stupid me took it apart to clear the dust from the screen a few weeks ago.
Guest usdiver Posted September 28, 2005 Report Posted September 28, 2005 Have you found a battery yet? If you haven't I would try another battery first. Then if that fails, call up HTC the manufacturer. I have seen this type of problem before though.. good battery, no problems then one day, boom...phone just died after being exposed to a tiny drop of water. Don't know what happened, took the phone case apart (nokia) and checked it.. all ok, but still no life. Turned out to be that battery just died all of a sudden. New battery fixed problem and was still going till phone was stolen.
Guest alastor Posted September 28, 2005 Report Posted September 28, 2005 Nope not found a battery, but have booked an out-of-warranty repair with HTC and will be sending it off tomorrow morning unless it miraculously starts working again or anyone has any suggestions? Had to say it broke through misuse/damage although it hasn't, grrrrr
Guest usdiver Posted September 28, 2005 Report Posted September 28, 2005 it's up to you how to do it, but is it worth it??? might be quite costly but you can get a battery off ebay for cheap money. :??: and if it wasn't damaged due to misuse, I wouldn't admit that it was either. If you talk to Tim Morvan at HTC, he's pretty good and will tell you where you stand, plus whether it is covered in the warranty or not. :o
Guest slider Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 If it's orange branded.. have you tried at an orange shop.. see if they can test a known working battery, before you send it off to HTC?
Guest usdiver Posted September 30, 2005 Report Posted September 30, 2005 alastor, I didn't think of sending you to orange first due to the fact they've never been able to tell me anything about any problem I've ever had. Out of 10 different orange "trainers" only one had a partial clue to a particular problem I had on another occasion and he sent me to HTC. I hope that they can help you but don't really think they will be able to. However, whichever way this goes can you pm me when you get it sorted as I would like to see you get this issue resolved...and if it's the battery like I'm thinking, it will probably only cost you the price of a battery, but if it isn't then the warranty should kick in anyway. I do tend to put a good word in for HTC as they have really helped me when orange couldn't. Good luck.
Guest alastor Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 Finally got a new battery in the post the day before yesterday, put it in and charged overnight with still nothing in the morning, so sent it off to HTC earlier this afternoon. :o Will let you know what they say, especially about the warranty etc
Guest usdiver Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005  sorry to hear about that. I would have thought for certain it was the battery.... and has NOT been exposed to water?

I would have thought for certain it was the battery.... and has NOT been exposed to water? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nope not been exposed to water at all as far as I know, like I said I had just left it on a desk and came back to it and it was dead. Should be with HTC on monday, so fingers crossed will have it back by the end of the week if they can get it sorted quickly.
Guest usdiver Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005 did you run the imei through them and make sure it was in warranty? either way, I am still curious as to know what the problem is when you get it back....fingers crossed...hope you get it soon. Steve
