Degraded Images When Browsing

I was browsing the net recently with my JasJar in 3G as a modem, connented to my laptop.

The quality of the webpage images in many cases were awful. Compressed to hell.

I contacted Vodafone and they confirmed that when you download images via GPRS or 3G they get compressed to "speed up" the delivery process.

He said now that 3G is widely adopted the compression wasn't so important, but it was still there.

How do I stitch compression off I asked? You can't he said.

So now I find myself with a virtually unlimited 3G tariff, only to find that many of the website graphics I download are compressed and distorted by such a huge amount it deters from my overall browsing enjoyment. Saved images are virtually useless.

Fair cop, this may have been a good idea with 9.6 GPRS but surely not with the far faster 3G speeds. I would much rather have a better quality, slightly slower download, then a compressed, poor quality one. Better still make it an option!

In went my Orange sim, and they do it too! Even on my smartphone's tiny screen the compression can be seen quite clearly.
