Alternative to Agile Messenger?

I've just read that agile will shortly begin charging a monthly fee for the use of agile messenger.

Can anyone recommend any alternative messaging programmes, in particular for yahoo and aol messenger?

I'm sure there has to be a free solution out there (why are the PPC versions free but not the WM versions?). I have agile messenger right now, how do I know if i'm getting charged? If I uninstall it and don't use it , will I not be charged anymore?
