Guest YoshiGoon Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 Heya guys, this is my first post, and i'm sorry that it had to be begging for help. I brought a used AudioVox SMT5600 from ebay a few days back, it arrived today. I need to appunlock it so i can simunlock it and therefore actually use it. Problem is the seller has updated it to 4.2.2.1 orange rom. none of the unlocking procedures work, and i have no reception here in Melbourne using my Vodafone sim. I can freely browse any other feature of the phone, use the internet via my comp, but it seems i can't unlock it can anybody help??
Guest martin Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 Welcome YoshiGoon You should still be able to application unlock like this :o If you don't have a true internet connection via GPRS then use the PC's data connection by setting a pass through connection for the phone. 1 Connect the phone to your PC using the USB cable. 2 On the phone goto Settings-Data Connections and set 'Internet connection: pass through connection'. 3 If pass through connection is not an option then first goto the PC activesync and under options, set pass through=The Internet. Go to the developers site and application unlock the phone :( http://developer.orangews.com/orgspv/comdef.aspx If the phones IMEI is not found in their database then download the register program, run it from the phone (it should say registered) and re-unlock. http://developer.orangews.com/orgspv/downloaddef.aspx?
Guest YoshiGoon Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 (edited) Thanks SO much for the fast reply!! I've tried this, when d/ling the app, it said that I'd been registered (the 15 digit number thingy) but, upon going to the website to unlock it, i got an error, telling me that this number was not in their database. Before I ever registered it, (when i first d/led the reg prog into my phone) it said the phone was registered and locked, showing my imei number, and no mobile number. Is it possible that the previous owner has registered this imei number to his own mobile number? I've sent an email off to orange asking for their app unlocker program which is executed via the PC, hope it works. Is there any other way to overcome this issue? Also, is it possible that my phones 1800mhz band has been buggered from this guy installing the orange rom? I'm getting terrible reception from vodafone australia, which is meant to be fully functional on this band. I get one bar if i stand outside, where i used to have full reception everywhere around here. Is there a way to force it to use this 1800mhz band? Can i revert back to an older 1800mhz friendly rom? :o Once again, thanks so much for your quick reply, you guys rule! Edited September 27, 2005 by YoshiGoon
Guest martin Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 If you phone is simlocked then how can you a get signal indication using a Vodafone Australia SIM ? It must already be SIM unlocked.
Guest YoshiGoon Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 Thanks for explaining that. I'm Simunlocked then, so how can i install foreign .cabs etc? And how can i increase performance on the 900/1800 band?
Guest martin Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 What cab files are you trying to install and what error message are you getting ? Some cab files may need the phone application unlocked but most cab files shouldn't. Have you tried your SIM in another phone to prove that the the signal in you area is still OK? If you can make voice calls and data calls without any problems then I probably wouldn't worry too much about the signal indicator as this can vary between phones.
Guest YoshiGoon Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 I'm getting zero coverage nearly all of the time, i've switched phones and i get nearly full coverage all the time on my old nokia 6310i. Themes from this website, emulators, etc in .cabs are unable to work.
Guest YoshiGoon Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 I've read about the 4.2 roms gsm sensitivity issues, could this affect my signal quality? Should I downgrade? If so, do i have to have this app unlocked?
Guest martin Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 I've have C500 and C550 phones and neither give me problems with signal. I'm not sure why your phone loses signal when the nokia has full bars :| Difficult question about ROMS because as you say you have an audiovox SMT5600 phone with an Orange ROM installed. I'm not sure if you can return to the SMT5600 ROM as I don't know if one is available for download.
Guest YoshiGoon Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 (edited) Okay, I found out that an SMT Rom is indeed unavailable, however, since i got my ipei unlocked, I installed a previous rom, qtek 80 1.2 etc, as per the instructions on this forum. Reception is still not improved, and I still can't get any in an area that i would usually get full reception. This is a 850/1800/1900mhz band phone, and my carrier, Vodafone australia says that 900 OR 1800 bands should work. If I stand outside, i sometimes get a bar or two...but other than that this is seriously underperforming and killing me. :| Any more suggestions :o  Edited September 27, 2005 by YoshiGoon
Guest mupwangle Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 The only thing I can think of to explain the Nokia difference is that you are in an area badly served on the 1800 band and the Nokia is using 900. The only way to prove that would be to use something like a c500 which is 900/1800 rather than 850/1800.
Guest YoshiGoon Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 Cheers for the reply. Is it not possible that the SMT5600 has a damaged antenna? Do you think a visit to a local mobile repair shop could help?
Guest YoshiGoon Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 Bingo. :o http://www.ausmobile.com/modules.php?op=mo...artid=11&page=2 All Australian GSM networks operate on both the GSM900 and GSM1800 bands. You will need a phone at least capable of GSM900 to use Australian networks (phones capable of GSM1800 only will have serious coverage issues and won’t work at all on certain networks due to the network configuration).I hate myself for being so stupid, but the seller really did hint that it would work fine: The phone is Tri-band GSM, but working on the 1800 frequency, best results will be achieved in inner-city areas. I AM INNER CITY  I guess my buissiness is with him now, hopefully i can still mail it back to him for a refund. Thank you all so much for your help, hopefully this will all work out, and I will soon have a 900mhz compatible SMV c500.
