Guest Tech Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 lol believe it or not i was thinking about making an app to do this. it's kinda not possible. im sure there is a way but it's tough. firstly too much load on the device for recieving the stream then decoding it then playing it etc... secondly your batt will rundown even quicker on the cell! If i find a way ill post it up
Guest Tech Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 another way which may work is if you use Windows Media Encoder to make your computer a stream type server, so you can stream videos and audio. Then in WMP10 on the phone, enter the url to the streamable file. but you would have to connect via gprs to allow media player to connect to the computer since there seems to be no way of connecting to the computer directly :o
Guest slider Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 He he.. hey guys.. how about this for an idea.. :-) Synch your C5xx upto your PC via the USB cable, and active sync. Once you have that set up, ensure you can use the passthrough connector (Set it in - Settings _> dataconnections) and ensure active sync options (tools -> options -> passthrouch (Set to internet) ) Check you can browse to a web site (EG www.yahoo.co.uk) using pocket internet explorer. Once all that works, your in business.. Set up a web server on your PC, eg IIS, Win32 apache, Abyss X1 etc etc Create a web portal under said server that can stream your tunes via HTTP.. i recomend setting up a PHP installation and using one of the many MP3 streaming systems (Lots can be found at www.hotscripts.com) Once this is done, point media player at the url of your local host (Usually 127.0.0.1) and hopefully it'll open and stream the MP3. At this point your working via USB, this means also that you won't hammer the battery :-) but using the wonderfull instructions on this site for Bluetooth active sync etc, it shouldn't be difficult to make it work via BT.. :-) Iv'e used the USB cable method, but never the BT, so please let me know if it works..
Guest Tech Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 hmmm users really shouldnt need to go through creating a webserver and stuff. WMP10 apperently does not support network streaming files (listening to files from computer to pocket WMP10) process is too long and unneeded. There is a way and im working on it :( but ty for sharing ! :o
Guest jcostantino Posted September 30, 2005 Report Posted September 30, 2005 Try this: http://www.orb.com/home/ (Disclaimer: never used it)
Guest jcostantino Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 I know this is an oooooooold thread but I finally got around to setting up and using the Orb service and it's pretty cool... just install the software, make a login, put the stuff you want to share in the default folders (My music, my videos, my pics) or add the folders to be watched manually. Go to orb.com/orb and log in with the user you created and it will stream your media to your phone/pda/anything with an internet connection. It's very cool and somehow it's free. The software only works on a windows-based PC but the other end is open to whatever can play the streamed files via the internet. It works great on my SMT-5600 over GPRS. Music is OK, pictures show up fine, video is slow to load but watchable and the streaming radio works well too.
