M500 odd texting issue

Right, lets see if you can fix this one because I can't. Every now and again my M500 goes from the usual text length of 160 characters to 70, but it only changes over to 70 after I've literally typed 70 characters, this then means I have to soft reset but thats a pain in the bum.

Any help here?

Hmmm. Not sure if it's the same issue but many of the HTC Pocket PC Phones have an issue whereby if the phone automatically inserts a ' then the number counter changes to 70. For some reason isn't affected by ' entered on the Blue Angel hardware keyboard. I remember reading that this is something to do with unicode?

It doesn't seem to occur everytime, but that does sound like a quite likely cause, I'll have a fiddle and see if I can recreate the problem, thanks Pondrew :o

Yep, sounds like the same thing

Go to Messaging, Accounts, Accounts..., Text Messages and then untick the "Use Unicode when necessary"

Some people have said that this can result in "Don't" being delivered as "Don?t", but I've never seen it happen myself

It might be the autocorrect feature??

From what I've read from these forums, the autocorrect creates a non-standard ', which is not that useful.

I think I remember somewhere there being a setting to not use unicode, so that the problem can be elimated.

Heh. Think you and Chucky.egg both posted the same answer at about the same time.

It does indeed happen when you use any word that has an apostrophe, don't, can't etc. It had been driving me nuts and once again this forum has saved my sanity, thanks guys. Off to search for a solution to my photo caontacts problem now....
