hi all , i have been here a while but never posted before but im about to get a new phone but just cant make head nor tail of what is right for me.

i have just sold my SPV C500 so you know what i had.

i have ordered a qtek s110 but no sign of it now , so i looked at some others like the qtek 9100 and now i cant decide , i have a few questions and will require peoples opinions on what phone i should get.

will Windows mobile 5 run tomtom navigator 5 :??:

is mobile 5 really something i should worry too much about :??:

i use my phone for mp3's videos some games and for tomtom.

bearing this in mind what do you guys recommend as im begining to think the s110 is old hat now

the final thing that is confusing me is all these phones that are the same with different names like the , imate jam / m500 / mda / qtek s100/s110

i just want to make sure im happy with my choice for the next year :o

thatnks guys

What's important to you in your new device?

If you want cutting edge with keyboard and size isn't important to you then either the I-Mate Jasjar/T-Mobile MDA Pro.

If you still want cutting edge and a keyboard but size is important then the forthcoming I-Mate K-Jam/Qtek 9100 should be for you.

Both of these have Windows Mobile 5. Is this important? Not really but it is the latest version and apparently delivers many improvements over the older os. It also allows Pocket PC Phones persistant storage for the first time (running out of battery power won't hard reset your device - Smartphones have always had it).

If a keyboard really doesn't appeal but you still want a cutting edge device and size isn't an issue then the HTC Alpine is being released by Orange as the Orange SPV M1500. The same device as the O2 XDA IIi but with Windows Mobile 5. This has a fast processor (525mhz!) and wifi (same as the previous mentioned devices).

Aside from that I guess I'd find it difficult to recommend any other Pocket PC Phones aside from the 128meg I-Mate New Jam/Qtek S110 (excellent for size and more stable due to the full allowance of ram). The other Magicians would be fine and can probably be picked up cheap but do you want a device which compromises on spec? As for the HTC Blue Angel, I love my MDA III but in truth it's getting long in the tooth and is a little bulky (without the advantages that the similar sized Jasjar offers).

Have you definately decided to leave the Smartphone format? Cos if not you really should check out the forthcoming HTC Tornado. I'm hoping it'll take the platform to new heights.

Good luck in your choice! :o

With regards TomTom Mobile, even if there are compatibility problems to begin with (and I've not read of any), TomTom have invested too much in the product to lose out on all the new Windows Mobile 5 customers. They'll fix any problems that come up, even if it takes a while.

size is important as is future proofness (i know this is not a word :o )

another thing that puts me off the qtek9100 is the use of mini sd and not sd memory as i want big storage

maybe the s110 is the one for me

what you guys think

Time to break away from the evil clutches of HTC and seek out the Eten M500( aka Torq P100).

I've had mine a few days now and it's brill!

had my s110 a couple weeks now and its ace.

a good upgrade for a C500 owner..less of those smartphone annoyances.

havent had any issues with memory or storage and its stable.

Good to hear. The Magician is an impressive little unit and with 128meg ram even I'm still tempted by it.

I had the the black Jam for a while . It's a grate device. But now i have the eten M500(aka torq p100) and i think the m500 is way better than the jam because the M500 has

better looks

64MB ram + 80Mb extra

!28Mb rom(in november the WM5 upgrade will be available)

Cheaper than the jam

Way faster than the jam

Check the Benchmarks in this review to see how faster is the m500

i had an order for the Qtek s110 outstanding with buymobilesonline for 3 weeks before finally deciding enough was enough and cancelling it this morning.

an order has been placed for the imate jam black (charcoal) this morning with phone2udirect and i'm told if i dont get the 1 they have in stock then i'll have one on the order they are recieving on wednesday.

the jam black is a limited edition according to totalpda mag and comes with the upgraded 128mb. its basically the same as the s110 but badged imate.

i asked they sales guy what was going on with the other handsets (M500, S110 etc) and he said that the M500 had problems with OS and CPU's so they have held the stock at Orange while they do further testing. The S110 cant meet demand on stock in most if not all suppliers and the Imate is only available cause they've only just realeased it.

i looked at the SPV M2000 at the weekend and for me its just too big when held side by side with an M500. i know the k-jam is of simular size to the jam, s110 etc but i dont want the slide out k/bd...
