Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 Fonix VoiceDial has been updated to version 2.1 The newest release of Fonix VoiceDial provides Bluetooth headset users with a voice interface for Smartphone devices. Fonix VoiceDial 2.1 provides the first Bluetooth-compatible, speaker-independent, voice-activated dialing software for the Microsoft Windows Mobile Smartphone platform. Fonix VoiceDial 2.1 is available for the following Smartphones: * Audiovox SMT5600 (Cingular) * i-mate SP3 Smartphone * i-mate SP3i Smartphone * Qtek 8100 Smartphone * SDA Smartphone (T-Mobile) * SDA Music Smartphone (T-Mobile) * SPV C500 (Orange) * O2 Xphone II (O2) * O2 Xphone IIm (O2) VoiceDial 2.1 now supports audio over a Bluetooth headset. Users just launch the application from the phone with the push of a button. Once initiated, voice commands can be made over the Bluetooth headset. Fonix VoiceDial is a totally interactive, hands-free software application that enables mobile users to place calls with an easy-to-use speech interface (no complicated menus to scroll through). Users simply speak the number or name to call, and VoiceDial does the rest. It's that easy! Best of all, there's no voice training required. VoiceDial puts the power of speech into phone dialing with minimal user demands - in the car, at home, in the office - anytime users want a better, safer and easier way to dial contacts. Fonix VoiceDial 2.1 is available in multiple languages: English, German, French and Spanish. Read more about it here: http://www.fonixspeech.com/pages/voicedial2_1.php
Guest TigerNet Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 ...nice...I shall be trying this today... Cheers Nick
Guest norelidd Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 (edited) this is a fantastic product. i mapped a voicetag to "voicedial" to launch the app, so all i have to do is hit the call button on my bluetooth headset, say "voicedial", then the app launches and then i say the name of the contact i want to dial and it dials! the name recognition is pretty good, but still has problems with foreign names (voicedia expects the phonetic pronunciation). fortunately, the voice training works, so i just add pronunciations to troublesome names. i love it. Guest TigerNet Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 ...works well, but have not figured out how to use with a headset (bluetooth) yet...
Guest Leaskovski Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 Wow.... is all i can say. I just tested it on my c500 and it worked. It called my home number without having to train it. The app start pretty fast. The only down side is that my poxy phone has an issue where if the handset is locked you can't start a voice dial properly via your bluetooth headset.
Guest efjay Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 (edited) But isnt there already voice dial capability on the C500 and other typhoons? What does this do that the onboard app cant? Edited October 5, 2005 by efjay
Guest argh Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 I haven't used this most recent version, but other than the headset support, it sounds about the same as the older version. 1) You don't need to train it, so no need to manually add voice tags to every name. 2) You can read out phone numbers, not just names. 3) It seemed more accurate than the built in voice tags on the C500 (at least I thought so, especially with a little background noise) It also has a nice text to speech system as well (reading back names/numbers). It would be good if they added functionality similar to Cyberon Voice Commander (reading your SMS, starting applications etc.).
Guest witchnut Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 Fonix VoiceDial has been updated to version 2.1 Read more about it here: http://www.fonixspeech.com/pages/voicedial2_1.php <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I use the previous version Fonix VoiceDial v2.0, and like the idea of proper Bluetooth integration, is there an upgrade path to v2.1 for existing users? I couldnt find anything on the Fonix site? Matt
Guest witchnut Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 .... anybody, is there an upgrade path for users of previous release? Matt
Guest witchnut Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 ............... answering my own question for the benefit of others. I got a very swift and helpful response back from Fonix, and am now upgraded to v2.1 as follows: I downloaded v2.1 from Handango, and registered it with the code I purchased previously for v2.0. I found that the installation program stopped during installation of the UK voices, but the installation worked perfectly when I ran it again installing a) Fonix Voicedial, and ;) UK Voices separately. v2.1 does all I expected it to, fully compatible with my C500 / Jabra BT250 combination. The (new) voices seem a little slow, just as the previous ones in v2.0 had done and I haven't found a way to speed them up in the menu as I have seen referenced in other posts, I assume this feature is available on other platforms but not on Smartphone .... unless omeone out there knows different? Matt

Matt <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I did exactly the same as Witchnut and thought it was all ok. Worked great for a month. However I now get a message saying my trial period is over. It will not accept my original registration key. Is there a cheap upgrade option?

I emailed Fonix support asking if there was a free or cheaper upgrade path and they very kindly emailed me back with a new Registration Key. Excellent service.
