Guest TigerNet Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 This is a shame...a few people ruining a decent system. I will wait with interest for the new section as I am not a fan of e-Bay, but prefer to trade in person... ... ... Cheers Nick
Guest chucky.egg Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 it is a shame, but TBH i thought it would happen much sooner.
Guest TigerNet Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 ...maybe the new one should be Plus only???
Guest chucky.egg Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 Hmm, dunno Plus membership is a small price to pay for scammers, and it'll only lead to people thinking "if he's a Plus member he must be OK". As long as you're careful on eBay it's safe enough - you can never protect yourself 100% though
Guest kurtfhouse Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 (edited) Maybe a PLUS only and 250 posts or something? So you would have to be somewhat established? Or perhaps there could be some sort of verification scheme which you would have to have undergone with the site to get access, I don't know how hard it would be to set up. Or a third party system, where one of the mods/staff act as a middle man, and all money and items go via them. So if the either the money or the item doesn't turn up then things get sent back to the original owner. There could be two or three days a month where the third party would send items and cash out so they wouldn't be at the post office all the time. I don't know how keen Paul is to have a buy/sell forum though, is it worth the effort? Edited October 4, 2005 by kurtfhouse
Guest pisquee Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 I've used the For Sale forum for letting people know when i've been selling smartphones on ebay, will be a shame to see it go as that was always a good way of letting people i knew would be interested that i had stuff for sale. I think having it for plus only may encourage people to sign up for plus which is a good thing big picture wise for the might 'Co, but may also discourage non-Plusers to actually look at the For Sale section, which may means it dies anyways. The other option of having it open to people who've been here as an active member for a while (i.e. a certain amount of posts in the on topic forums) may be a good and/or option to plus only. Smartphones are still not the most common in the world, when compared to, say, Nokia. This is the maybe the most frequented place on the net for info on smartphones. And as they aren't common everywhere, is somewhere people may expect to find info on where to buy them.

The new Sale section will require an item to be Ebay listed...

So that people don't have to use eBay or the FridayAd? This is primarily a Smartphone discussion forum, not Exchange&Mart Having said that, I do think that there's a danger that the other forum areas will see an increase in For Sale posts that have to get cleanded up.
Guest TigerNet Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 ...how do other forums approach this issue? Most seem to have a 'market place' section where members can buy/sell/trade... ...I find it hard to believe that MoDaCo is the only forum that is hit by scammers, so what is the attitude of the other forums...buyer beware??? Cheers Nick
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 I do think that there's a danger that the other forum areas will see an increase in For Sale posts that have to get cleanded up. Any for sale posts on the site will be removed, as for site staff acting as a third party, the logistics of this would be a pain plus you would then have to consider a handling fee which would probably end up being more than ebay as it would be more labour intensive. Unfortunately all this is because of one individual living in Scotland. The members he has stolen money from have not grouped together and got the police involved. Because of this we have been forced into this situation in an attempt to try and protect the members of MoDaCo
