Guest removed-2 Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 Hi, I have just changed my email over to a gmail account and have found a great app for the PC called gmail notifier that polls my gmail account and tells me when I have a new message. Does anyone if there is a similar apps available for the Smartphone (C550)? If not, are there any willing programmers out there to knock one together? I am sure with such a useful app that you could attach a small price tag? Any help or advise would be appreciated! Thanks Mark
Guest chucky.egg Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 Why not just set it to download headers only every N minutes?
Guest tsutton Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 I would agree with what chucky.egg said... set it to download headers only and the C550 (and C500) will alert you of any new e-mail.
Guest removed-2 Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 Ok, sounds good to me. Can you point me in the direction of any documentation on how to do this. I do already know the google pop and smtp server details so its just the information on how to put this together. Thanks for your help. Mark
Guest chucky.egg Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 Create a new email account in the normal way For GMail you will need to specify the incoming and outgoing mail servers, and their Port numbers (these are non-standard with GMail, so not specify the Port number will cause it to fail). Set the interval you want to check the mail account to something appropriate for you. Downloading no email takes just a few Kb, so I would tend to check very frequently if you want to know about emails quickly. One thing to bear in mind though: There's a bug in WM2003 which causes the wrong email to be downloaded if you delete some emails and then mark others for download. What you have to do is delete the emails you don't want, do a Send/Receive, then mark the ones you want to download in full and do another Send/Receive

Guest chucky.egg Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 I think your username might just be the bit BEFORE the @gmail.com
Guest removed-2 Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 I think your username might just be the bit BEFORE the @gmail.com <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Still not working, its coming up with password and login name for the incoming server. I have tried this as my usersname without @gmail.com and also with [email protected] Any more suggestions? Thanks Mark
Guest removed-2 Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 I am right in thinking I should be using the internet for the "The Network" setting or should this be something like WAP etc? Help.. Thanks Mark
Guest chucky.egg Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 Yeah, should be Internet and NOT WAP. You can't download emails over a WAP connection I'll dig out my C500 and check the settings. Will post again later(unless someone beats me to it)
