Guest Pagemakers Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 I am using AS4 with 2 WM5 devices. A PPC (JasJar) and Smartphone (iMate SP5). Synching to these devices takes about 10 times longer than synching to WM2003SE with ActiveSync 3.x Also when you click on contacts in ActiveSync there are no settings, so if like me you sync your phone with Outlook and only want to sync some contacts (ie I don't want my partner's contacts in my phone) then you can't. The option is not there to sync categories anymore. AS4 is a step backwards if you ask me :o
Guest TigerNet Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 ...have to say, I had not noticed any change in sync speed with AS4, but you are right on the contacts...strange feature to remove... Cheers Nick
Guest Pagemakers Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 AS4 syncs quickly with WM2003 devices but it takes 10 times longer with WM5 devices. Test it when you get your new phone :o
Guest TigerNet Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 ...ouch!!! Nice try...I am syncing with my K-Jam actually - which does have WM5... HeHeHe Cheers Nick
Guest Pagemakers Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Hmm. Synchin on my JasJar and SP5 is slow. The Qtek 8100/C500 are must faster. Anyway, the speed is not the issue. It's the fact that you can't sync contact categories anymore.
Guest TigerNet Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 ...heh heh... ...agree not being able to sync contact categories would be a pain for some - I don't use this feature personally though... ...it does seem a bizarre function to remove... Cheers Nick
Guest Pondrew Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 ...have to say, I had not noticed any change in sync speed with AS4, but you are right on the contacts...strange feature to remove... Cheers Nick <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hate to say it guys but running Activesync 4.1 here with several Windows Mobile 2003SE devices (Smartphone and Pocket PC Phone) and it does offer the options of which categories/contacts to sync. Surely they didn't remove this ability from Windows Mobile 5!?! Did they?
Guest Pagemakers Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 I am running 4.1 here. WM2003 = Contact/category option :o WM5 = No option. The settings button is greyed out on Smartphone and PPC :( Must be a bug....
Guest Griff_FFOC Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 I am running 4.1 here. WM2003 = Contact/category option :o WM5 = No option. The settings button is greyed out on Smartphone and PPC :( Must be a bug.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know you can get copies of AS4, but isn't AS 3.8 the latest release? I'd expect until it's relaeased properly that it may well have bugs and problems.
Guest TigerNet Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 ...but WM5 devices don't run with AS 3.8...they need AS4... Cheers Nick
Guest Pagemakers Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 Yup. WM5 needs AS4.0. I have tried it with 3.8 and it will not work. 4.1 is un-officially out but I see no difference. Personally, 3.8 is far better.
Guest TigerNet Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 Activesync 4 will improve. ...insider knowledge or wishful thinking??? :o Cheers Nick
Guest Pagemakers Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 It could improve if they renamed it 3.7 and then released 3.8 as the current upgrade :o
Guest Pondrew Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 hehe. Sorry, no insider knowledge, just eternal optimism! I'm still waiting for Activesync 5 when I'll have both my Pocket PC Phone and Smartphone connected and syncing at the same time!
Guest fozzie Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 (edited) Where is AS 4.1 available from? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Are you really too flippin' lazy to type "download activesync 4.1" in to Google? At least the first 3 hits have all got download links  Edited October 8, 2005 by fozzie
Guest JesseRPI Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 Doh - please excuse my laziness. Usually I'm not this lazy :o. I did find it using your suggestion. Thanks.
Guest fozzie Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 And please excuse my shortness. I was a bit tired and emotional :( Glad you found it :o
