Guest fluffcat1 Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005 (edited) Will the generic battery work for my smt5600 as well as the OEM battery. Has anyone bought one and have any experience with a generic battery All the generic batteries I've ever had have been OK at first and then dropped off a lot quicker with use than the equivalent original so that I now have some canon ixus batteries that only last 15 shots with the flash yet the original battery supplied with the camera can take 40 or so even after a few years constant use. With regards to c500 / smt5600 batteries, all the generic / unbranded ones I've had off ebay were also useless, draining a lot quicker than the original despite claiming the same capacity. Even if it's not an original, try to get a branded cell, as then you are at least assured of the quality of the cells inside. The original battery for a smt5600 is a samsung branded ST26a rated at 3.7v with a capacity of 1050mAh made in Korea. You get what you pay for, I've seen them (generic) for as little as $3 plus shipping, but original c500 batteries cost around $40 here in the UK from orange, so you could buy nearly 10 for the same price.
