How to use the phone as an Infra-Red Modem

IRDA GPRS Connection with Orange SPV Phone and Windows XP Pro:

1. Install Microsoft Active Sync 3.6 or later

2. Point the SPV Phone at the IRDA on the Laptop, and on the Orange phone select

PROGRAMS - ACCESSORIES - (4) MODEM LINK

3. Select the IrCOMM Connection and then Press the MENU button and select ACTIVATE

(make sure that phone is pointing at the laptops IRDA, DO NOT press Done!)

4. Windows XP will automaticall install (NO DRIVERS REQUIRED!) a Modem called

Standard Modem over IRLINK will be added (A sound will eventually indicate this!)

5. Select: START MENU / CONTROL PANEL / PHONE AND MODEM OPTIONS

6. Select: Standard modem over IRLINK / Select PROPERTIES

7. Select: ADVANCED MENU and enter the initialisation string:

+cgdcont=1,"IP","orangeinternet","",0,0

8. Goto Windows XP Network Connections and create a new network connection

9. Select: CONNECT TO THE INTERNET / SETUP MY CONNECTION MANUALLY /

CONNECT USING DIAL UP MODEM / TICK: Standard Modem over IRLINK

10. For the Connection name enter: GPRS

11. For the Phone number enter: *99#

12. Leave all three entires blank for user/pass/domain and Untick all three boxes

13. Select: Finish

14. The Connection Window should now pop up, click DIAL

15. You will then be registered to the connection and then you can start using

your SPV Phone as a GPRS Modem.

NOTE:

It can take a while for it to initialise/open the port.

Also make sure that Network DialUp connection is using the new IRDA Modem!!

You can increase the properties for the connection above 115200 in the Dial Up.

It seems to reset when re-activated. IRDA Device only goes upto 152000!!

It may be possible to run the firewall on the connection, not tested.
