Guest tsutton Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005 This morning, I was using the phone without any problems. I put it down, went to do something then checked my phone again. It froze. No response to any key presses and power button. I took out the battery and left it for about 5 to 10 mins. Put the battery back in, it booted up itself without touching the power button. Odd. But as soon as it got to the homescreen, it froze again. But if I plug in the USB cable and use the ActiveSunc Remote Display, it works fine. It's as if the keypad won't accept any inputs. I backed up my data and upgraded it to 4.2.1.2 from 4.1.1.1 and the upgrade went successfully. I powered it on, it booted up and started the cold boot config thing and finally, it asked me to press the OK key to reboot it. But it didn't reboot. I pressed the power button and it doesn't power up. Took out the battery and put it back in and it does the cold boot config all over again and when it's done, press OK key to reboot and it didnt reboot. No response to power button. I've run out of ideas what to do next. Does anyone know how I can get the phone to work again? Thanks.
Guest tsutton Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005 Update: I put the battery back in and it booted up itself. As soon as it got to the Cold boot config, I plugged in the USB cable. Then when it said to press the OK button to reboot, it *DID* reboot but it did the cold boot config all over again! For what it's worth, the battery is almost 80% so it's not a power issue. Now that I got it powered up and connected to ActiveSync, I'm going to run the update again and see if it's any help.
Guest tsutton Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005 2nd update was successful, but still no change. It does the same thing as I described in the two posts above. :o So... over to you guys to help me.
Guest m1.carson Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005 Hi, I'm not a phone techi, but a couple of suggestions which probably won't work but are worth a try, 1] remove the battery and clean the contacts and also clean around the case edge, sometimes a build up of dust will allow the battery to "rattle a bit". 2] One of your buttons may be stuck or sticky, try cleaning them, especially the on/off and OK, meths on a paint or toothbrush, damp not too wet, or, if it's the superglue called coffee, soapy water is best, again only just damp, not wet wet. Good luck, Max.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005 Sounds like the power button is stuck or shorted from what you are saying about it booting up by itself. I have just tried the same thing on my C500 buy holding the power button in and con not replicate the problem. May be worth taking the phone apart (if you do nto have any warranty issues) and seeing is something is obstructing the buttons in any way.
Guest tsutton Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005 Thanks for the replies, everyone. When I do get it to power up, the cold boot config screen still loads up, it configures and then asked me to press the OK button to reboot it. But it doesn't reboot, it just shut down and thw power button is no longer works. Removed battery and back in, it booted up itself yet again and went to the cold boot config screen. Is it possible ther phone is fscked? I've had this phone since Dec '04 so it's under 1 year, which means it should be covered by warranty, yeah?
Guest tsutton Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005 Hum, after fidding and pressing random buttons on the phone, it works now! And I'm left puzzled. :o I'm sure it will happen again later on, but for now it works! Thanks for the help, everyone!

Thanks for the help, everyone! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, if fiddling with the buttons a while made it work again it could well be that it was a stuck button. Bit worrying though given you're so close to the end of your warranty. :?:
