Voice Dialing On The Smt5600

Okay, total smartphone newbie here. I've not yet gotten my mitts on any of these devices so I've been lurking about here for the last day or two trying to glean what I can.

I'm contemplating the purchase of either the SMT5600 or the MPx220 (on Cingular no matter which). I've noticed that although they're both running WM2003, the MPx220 boasts speaker-independent voice dialing while the SMT5600 indicates "up to 50 voice tags." Do these two phones simply come bundled with different voice dialing apps or is there a hardware explanation for this difference?

What I'm getting from an initial search of the forums here is that there are many 3rd party voice recognition/dialing apps available. Would I be able to simply install a different app to give the 5600 the same speaker-independent features that are offered stock on the MPx220? Taken to its logical extreme, my goal of course would be speaker-independent voice dialing and voice-to-digit dialing over my bluetooth headset and I've seen a number of explanations here of possible solutions for this but first things first..... :?:

Neither phone will allow you to use voicedial over BT. The 5600 will but it won't when the keypad is locked which makes it useless. You could always install Fonix Voicedial on the 5600 so then you wouldn't have to train any voicetags voice but still theres no way of doing it over BT with the keypad locked.

Its the main reason why I plan on replacing my 5600..

Well, that's just disappointing, of course. Essentially every review I've seen - whether from actual users or from tech review columnists - goes on and on about everything Audiovox (or HTC?) got right on the 5600. It seems just common sense that one should also be able to use voice commands while the keys are locked...

*sigh*

Oh, well. THAT wouldn't be a deal-breaker for me. I just wanted to be certain that I wouldn't have to bother with the whole process of recording a limited number of voice commands in order to use the feature at all.

What about the MPx220? Can that one handle voice commands while.........oh, wait. It's a clamshell so the keys don't have to be exposed at all. Hmm....I wonder if this might end up being the tipping point....

Nope the mpx220 won't even do it without the keypad lock because it uses voice recognition software. If your concerned about limited voice tags then I would strongly suggest just installing Fonix VoiceDial on the 5600 which will also eliminate having to train any of your contacts..

I dunno if I would take the chance on getting a good mpx220 without volume issues(even after the fixes) after what I have read but this is of course my opinion..
