Guest karlux Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 Hi, I bought a AT&T smt 5600 phone on Ebay, sent it to Europe, unlocked using spv service and discovered that I have very poor network reception!!! What is the reason for poor network reception? What can I do to improve it? After upgrading to Qtek ROM I noticed small improvements in network reception, but still very poor!!!!
Guest bluesmudge Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 Are you using an AT&T sim card in the phone? or was the unlock for something else? I know that swapping networks on it can drop the quality - are you actually in the US or are you using the phone in a new place? so many questions i know - but quite often people find by trying to use a phone in the wrong place on the wrong network with the wrong ROM tend to have problems - not saying thats what you've been doing but thats the only reason i can see.
Guest karlux Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 Thanks for replay! I use the phone in Eastern Europe - Latvia, bought it in US with locked AT&T network. Currently i'm using the phone not with AT&T sim card! I upgraded to Qtek ROM but still very poor reception (actualy there was small improvements) !!! You say that wrong ROM can cause poor network reception - then which ROM would the right?! Now I can't get rid of Qtek ROM, that's a problem too!! Do you have an experience with phones that have not worked in different places of the world because of rom???
Guest bradmatejo Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 The AT&T version of the phone is GSM 850/1800/1900, but in Europe they are more likely using the 900 mhz band. That's your problem. You need the Euro model of this phone, which is 900/1800/1900.
Guest karlux Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 hmm... I'm not sure that in Europe there are many networks which runs on 900mhz!!! I believe that 1800/1900 is most popular?!
Guest bradmatejo Posted October 14, 2005 Report Posted October 14, 2005 Uh... no. US uses 850 and 1900, Europe 900 and 1800.
