Rename Your Messaging Accounts

This tweak works on both Smartphone and Pocket PC Phone Edition devices.

You know how when you go into the 'Messaging' application you are presented with a list of accounts?

Well, my phone by default lists:

- Text Messages

- Outlook E-Mail

- MMS

This tweak lets you change the names of the messaging accounts

How difficult is it?

First of all, spark up your Registry Editor of choice. I have included screenshots below using 'Resco Registry' on the Smartphone, but you'll see pretty much the same thing whatever you are using.

You will be presented with a screen that looks like the following:

Here you see a list of the 'Hives' in the Registry.

The Registry has a 'tree like' structure, which you can navigate by scrolling and clicking, and go back by hitting, well, back :o

So... where is the all important location for this tweak?

Navigate yourself to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc\

This is where the fun starts... this, as the name suggests, is where the settings are held for the services in your Messaging Inbox :(

On the screen you now see before you, you'll see a number of 'keys', with names such as 'SMS'. Unsuprisingly, these correspond to the relevant services in your Messaging Inbox.

Now the fun part.

Say the name you want to change is for 'SMS'. Navigate to the 'SMS' key, and you'll see the following screen.

The value we need to edit is called 'FriendlyName'. In this screenshot it is set to 'Text Messages'. Click the value to change it, choose a new name (e.g. SMS), hit OK, and you're done!

If you DON'T see 'FriendlyName', you can create it! Use the 'New' function to create a new value of type 'String', call it 'FriendlyName', and enter your desired name for the value.

Repeat for the other Messaging accounts you wish to change, and you don't even need to reboot to see it's effect :lol:
