Guest GuyAdams Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 Ok after reading an article on TomTom mobile and the SPV C550 it appears that it wont work without messing with my phones registry. How long do you all think it will be until TomTom release an update to resolve this? Also how long do you think it will until TomTom mobile 5 gets a much needed map update, im using Great Britan v562 and theres several main bypass roads which arnt on the map. Regards GuyAdams
Guest daedos59 Posted October 14, 2005 Report Posted October 14, 2005 It's not just the screen resolution problem, I think WM5 causes problems too. It'll be a long time before TomTom Mobile 5 gets a proper update.

I know that you can't simply do resolution doubling as the new screens aren't 2x a big. But fonts and the like could be adjusted.
Guest ostrichwatch Posted October 14, 2005 Report Posted October 14, 2005 Received from Tom Tom a few days ago... Thank you for your e-mail. The following link details which phones are compatible with the Mobile 5 software: http://www.tomtom.com/products/compatibili...D=69&Language=1. Imate SP5 is not on the list and we are unable to guarantee support for any unlisted phones. At TomTom we strive to make our products compatible with as many devices and platforms as possible. However, connectivity protocols are dictated by the technology markets, not by TomTom, so we are at the mercy of the fact that there is not a standard set of connectivity protocols that covers all platforms and devices. We therefore choose to use the most commonly supported connectivity protocols (Bluetooth 1.1 and DUN) in order to support as many devices as we possibly can. Due to this lack of a single generic set of connectivity standards, it is unfortunately not possible for us to support all devices. Our testing department is constantly testing all new devices that are released on the market, and when necessary we make changes to our software to further improve the compatibility of our products. In future we will continue to expand our compatibility lists, and will strive to ensure that our products support as many devices as possible. With best regards, The TomTom Customer Support Team
Guest roma0803 Posted October 14, 2005 Report Posted October 14, 2005 Ok, assuming TomTom will not come with a WM5 solution soon, what alternatives are there at present time or in the near future as far as can be told for WM5 phones?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 14, 2005 Report Posted October 14, 2005 I'm sure they are working towards higer res and WM5 compatability issues etc. Watch this space and we will announce it here as soon as we hear any official announcments.

Guest peekie Posted October 14, 2005 Report Posted October 14, 2005 could also be the problem with the c550 as this phone is getting the upgrade to wm5 soon ( confirmed by orange nl today ) , it would make it easy for tomtom to update the software then as wm5 has the same screen as the c550 only the system is different for the moment ;)

Guest GuyAdams Posted October 14, 2005 Report Posted October 14, 2005 As far as I'm concerned TomTom is the only navigation software I want, on a small screen using 2D maps would be difficult to use, hense the TomTom 3D maps are fantastic. I use my sat nav quite alot and seems I will have to keep the C500 for a while. Just abit of a pain really. Also Ive not seem a map update since its release, anyone got any ideas what their messing at? or is it just me missing the updates? Regards Guy_Adams
