Guest ericcire Posted October 18, 2005 Report Posted October 18, 2005 i have same settings and also looking for a rom upgrade
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 18, 2005 Report Posted October 18, 2005 The one you have is pretty good, better than Oranges first one. A lot of people upgrade for the sake of it without really knowing the benefit if any.
Guest dewdman42 Posted October 23, 2005 Report Posted October 23, 2005 Is there any information online anywhere which describes what these ROM upgrades are, where to get them and what they each provide?
Guest smeg36 Posted October 23, 2005 Report Posted October 23, 2005 There are only two SMT5600 ROMs, the AT&T and Cingular versions. They are essentially the same ROM with different branding. There are other ROMs, such as the C500's, that you can flash to your phone, but they don't provide anything the SMTs doesn't have. There really is no need to update the ROM, nor are there really any updates available.

Guest Socrates Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 (edited) I just got a replacement 5600 phone. I'm on an ATT billing scheme. This new phone has better reception than my old one. It seems to be handling the two available networks better including better reception and listing them both as Cingular instead of listing one as ATT. The old one is: WM2003 SE 4.21.1088 build 14257.2.0.0 Radio version A.10.01 Operator: 1.1.40.0 Manufacturer: 1.1.58.80 Microsoft: 4.21.14257.0 The new one is: WM2003 SE 4.21.1088 Build 14257.2.0.0 Radio Version A.10.01 Operator: 2.0.40.1 Manufacturer: 2.5.40.48 Microsoft: 4.21.14257.0 The Audiovox startup splash screen has 2.0.40.1 in red in the upper left corner. Guest forrestc Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 Hmm.. I have a newer Cingular SMT5600 WM2003 SE 4.21.1088 Build 15045.2.6.0 Radio Version A.12.02 Operator: 2.0.40.10 Manufacturer: 2.5.42.40 Microsoft: 4.21.14045.0 Maybe a newer build, or maybe just a bit different b/c it is from Cingular instead of ATT.. I just got a replacement 5600 phone. <snip> The new one is: WM2003 SE 4.21.1088 Build 14257.2.0.0 Radio Version A.10.01 Operator: 2.0.40.1 Manufacturer: 2.5.40.48 Microsoft: 4.21.14257.0 The Audiovox startup splash screen has 2.0.40.1 in red in the upper left corner. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Guest PeteSL Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 I just got a replacement 5600 phone. I'm on an ATT billing scheme. This new phone has better reception than my old one. It seems to be handling the two available networks better including better reception and listing them both as Cingular instead of listing one as ATT. I have to ask: Where/how did you get a replacement phone. I have two (wife's and mine) that are about a year old and match your original ROM versions. We are also on an ATT billing scheme and do not want to change, but we certainly would like to have improved interoperability with the Cingular network. Thanks. Pete
Guest elliotboney Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 I have a cingular smt5600 and i flashed the ATT rom onto it because it allows you to manually select the network so i can choose between ATT and cingular at my house. I don't know if it is the *best* rom, since i can't see any difference between the cingular and att roms besides the branding and this network selection ability.

My original phone the USB stopped being detected by the computer, although it would still charge. I haven't noticed anything different, except for I found it odd that it came branded ATT but the SimLock was set to Cingular, making the ATT SIM unusable. Unlocking fixes that ... I would rather have the cingular ROM just because I don't have mMode, and it bothers me that it is there as well as the Roaming sign always being on.
Guest elliotboney Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 the roaming only comes on my phone when i set it to use the att tower instead of the cingular tower. the usb is a little weird but usually a restart of the phone fixes it, or if i don't wanna restart my computer, just switching the usb cable to a different port works as well eL
Guest dleasman Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 (edited) My phone has the "old" version listed in the thread. I realize this thread is to determine if there is a newer version than the "new" version listed above, but... How do I upgrade to the "new" version talked about above? Also, what are the differences between the "old" and "new" versions listed above? -Dana Edited January 18, 2006 by dleasman
Guest elliotboney Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 Well with cingular you can't download the new rom images from them, go to www.spvdevelopers.com and read about how to flash with a new rom, also there is a rom image on there for cingular that i used as well as ATT. if you search for my post on downgrading from WM5, there is a link to the cingular rom, or look under the low-level development section any links to illegal roms on here is against policy, i doubt anyone at cingular would care if you were upgrading your phone to their rom though eL
Guest dleasman Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 Having much trouble finding the update to the "new" firmware version talked about above. Specifically, I am looking for version 4.21.1088 for my SMT5600 Can someone private message me with a link to the firmware update, or e-mail me directly? [email protected]
Guest nborton Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 FYI on my version: This phone came in the mail two days ago from ATT as a replacement under warranty. I then flashed the cingular ROM onto it for a noticable improvement in speed.
