Guest sgeary Posted October 14, 2005 Report Posted October 14, 2005 I just cant decide which one i want so i thought this would help me and everyone else out on which one to buy!
Guest jonhitch Posted October 14, 2005 Report Posted October 14, 2005 Just added my vote. For me the Qtek 9100 is the winner. Better looking, cheaper, 2yr warranty compared with Imate K-Jam. Only potential negatives are unknown bundled software, no english website and potentially reduced support (ROM updates etc). I didn't see that warranted the additional £60-100!
Guest marianocifre Posted October 14, 2005 Report Posted October 14, 2005 (edited) Hi, my vote was for the Imate K-JAM. In Mad Monkey Boys is only 50 US Dollars the difference between haveing support and don't haveing. I reather preffer support. :\ Edited October 14, 2005 by marianocifre
Guest jonhitch Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 I agree that Imate does appear to have better support and I understand they release ROM updates quicker. However found this on the buymobilephones website and I was very happy to see that I'd still manage to get updates for my phone! Thought others would like to know. Looks like there's an almost 50:50 split between the 2 phones. This makes sense given that they're technically the same (and are both great!) ;) Qtek ROM Upgrades 14th June 2005 Qtek ROM upgrades are now available free of charge from our website. They are currently free to all but will shortly be password protected for the use of Buymobilephone customers only.
Guest Pondrew Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 I agree that Imate does appear to have better support and I understand they release ROM updates quicker.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not always unfortunately. For some strange reason the Imate SP3 (HTC Typhoon) was one of the last such devices to get a Windows Media Player 10 update.
Guest Exodia Posted October 18, 2005 Report Posted October 18, 2005 Just out of curiousity, If it where possible for me to get my hands on a kjam rom update, would i be able to flash it to a qtek 9100. They are after all, the exact same device.
Guest Pondrew Posted October 18, 2005 Report Posted October 18, 2005 Not as standard. Traditionally updates will only run on a device with the correct vendor id and country id. www.imei-check.com has traditionally been able to unlock a device to all updates though...
Guest Exodia Posted October 19, 2005 Report Posted October 19, 2005 Thanks, If the qtek rom proves to be crap, i'll give that site a look.
Guest MitchellO Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 You can probably install the K-JAM rom on the Qtek 9100, but I believe you will need one of those apps that bypasses the various ID checks. I'd wait for the Wizard to disperse to more people, then there will be more info about that sort of thing.
Guest MitchellO Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 I bought the K-JAM for three reasons: * Better support, if anything went wrong * Good history with ROM updates * Only version I could get my hands on for a decent price!
Guest Loukas Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 Where are you all buying from? I noticed that www.buymobilephones.net has added some more contract options (including Orange) but they seem to be out of stock. Has anyone else found any great deals out there? I'm really on the verge of ordering, if I can get my hands on a good 12-month 200min-200txts deal for around £30. Loukas
Guest MitchellO Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 I bought mine from Expansys Australia.
Guest bennish Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Mitchell how long ago was that? Have you received it? I saw it on expansys and it looks great, less than $1100 au, but it says not in stock 'till nov. 6 ;) i may have to go with anythingonline (100 bucks more).
Guest MitchellO Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 I placed my order last night. They estimate 12-13 days to get stock, and 1-2 days for delivery. I was happy to buy from them as it means I have aussie warranty and no customs problems.
Guest bennish Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Yeah that's why i wanted to. i got eten m500 from smartdevicesdirect (uk) - they're great, but i'd prefer aussie. Anythingonline is aussie, would that still be ok for warranty etc u think? i'd be willing to pay a bit extra to get it sooner (want it before a holiday). http://www.anythingonline.com.au/catalogue...81/c1072/p17534
Guest MitchellO Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 That price doesn't include post, so I would check that. Not bad if you can get it in ~1week. I just couldn't afford to spend anymore that I already have. K-JAM (AU$1079) and 512mb miniSD (AU$63) has really done me, considering I only got AU$879 for my XDA Mini + Wifi + 1Gb.
Guest bennish Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Well, went ahead and got it. 6 bucks postage, that's australia post or courier depending on location. If it gets here by next wed, i'll be happy.
Guest MitchellO Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 Expansys have updated my order status to 11 days. At the moment I am stuck with a Nokia 8210, as I am shipping off my XDA Mini this arvo.
Guest martynstar Posted November 18, 2005 Report Posted November 18, 2005 Expansys have updated my order status to 11 days. At the moment I am stuck with a Nokia 8210, as I am shipping off my XDA Mini this arvo. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I am leaning to the K-jam, this seems to have better support etc, and the major factor that i like is the fact that it seems to have one hand support for texting! I saw a pic on this page, Pocketnow IMATE K-Jam Review which has a touch screen big thumb keyboard on the imate rom as standard! This means i dont have to use the stylus or keyboard to send those quick txt msgs!! Anyone else see it on the Qtek 9110??
Guest MitchellO Posted November 18, 2005 Report Posted November 18, 2005 Have a look at my review of the K-JAM on the gadgeteer. http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/review/i_mate...pocket_pc_phone
Guest Pondrew Posted November 18, 2005 Report Posted November 18, 2005 From what I've been reading all HTC Wizard (Qtek, Imate, etc) roms will include the Phone Pad, as do all Universals.
