new rom on clubimate site

i did install the new rom..it does say a new name before installation and shows iMate k-jam visual..on installation my device became extremely fast like a rocket in space without garvity ;)

i have done all sorts of changes on my external rom before as mentioned in most of the forums and did get to remove the antivirus software from my previous version..but overall i still did never get the speed as my other pocket pc devices..thought it was the operating system..

Post new rom installation i checked for my extended rom to see that there was no skype or the anti virus software there anymore...means they have understood that these two were creating the problem...WOW...i am toooo happy now with the speed...yes i did hard reset it once more by adding the certifcate cab file so that i dont keep getting the sertificate notification and added commander as default installation...

MY K-JAM ROCKS NOW...OFCOURSE WITHOUT SKYPE

Glad your K-Jam is quicker. Apparently the ROM on the website may be a pre-production one (discussed in howardsforum) hence the lack of AV and Skype software. Great news though as most people would otherwise go down the route of registry hacks etc.

I'm hopefully getting my Qtek 9100 tonight. I seem to remember hearing that this comes without AV and Skype out of the box. Can a 9100 owner confirm?

Allright!!

I'm downloading it now.

But I've got a few questions:

Can I backup my original Rom, just in case?

Which operatingsettings are in the ship-from-factory-rom? I want to have the dutch operating settings.

What version of the ROM are we talking about? I bought my iMate K-Jam, 2 weeks ago from Expansys and it seems I already have the ROM that is on the Clubimate website. (ROM 1.1.9.3, Radio 01.01.10, ExtROM 1.1.9.104)

Is there a newer that we are talking about here that would make the K-Jam faster? Thanks.

I have a 9100 it definitely doesn't have skype and I haven't seen any antivirus stuff on it either (i've only had it a few days so not checked too throughly.

Thanks Spacemonkey

I'm hopefully receiving my 9100 tomorrow - after an impressive delay due to courier problems. I hope my wife is around when they try to deliver - otherwise I may need to wait longer!

Can't wait for this little beauty ;)

This is not a new ROM , it's the one that ships with your unit. The radio version etc are the same.

I think you have probably hacked your extended ROM and taken out the Skype and AV software.

I have done the same and even if you install the Imate site ROM your extended ROM will remain the same. The operating system is seperate now. To confirm this more stick a text file in your extended ROM , reflash and it will still be there.

My friend has an SP5 and on his download section in Imate they have the operating system and Customisation as seperate Installs.

Hope this helps, also there is a problem where the AV software is not installing on the Imate K-Jam even if you hard reset. Its documented as a known problem and they have put a download for it . Like you really want it :D

How would one go about looking into what's in the Extended ROM? If's it ROM, then how can you modify it? And is it worth modifying it? Thanks.

My K-Jam has the latest ROM but I also have Skype installed and if you hilight a contact, the menu choices do have a "Call with Skype". However, neither clicking Skype application (absolutely nothing happens) and "Call with Skype" (errors about not finding skype dll or something) produces anything useful.

I have tried to remove the application but there are some errors so I just delete the Skype folder to save space on the main RAM.

Ideas? Thoughts?

There are tools which will unhide your extended rom but in my opinion the extended rom is hidden for a very good reason. I have never messed with my external rom. Bug fixes and patches specific to each individual rom are stored there. Interfering with them can introduce new bugs or problems to a device, as some members here have found.

On my MDA III (using an Imate rom with Skype built in) all you have to do to remove Skype is go to Settings / System / Remove Programs and select Skype Technologies. Just done it now and it uninstalled without any problems. If I were you I'd do this rather then messing with your external rom.

I totally agree with the above and playing with your ROM can render your device useless.

have a look here www.beyondthetech.com/blogs/kjam/

As well as a good source of information on the K-jam, it has some very usefull links to games , freeware etc.

Please . I do discourage you all not to play with your external ROM , there are risks as stated above and worse still can render your device useless.

Point taken about messing with Extended Rom but thanks for the link to blog at beyondthetech. There's a registry hack to show whether Caps Lock or Symbol Lock is on which is fantastic. Thanks.
