Guest Kinch Posted October 19, 2005 Report Posted October 19, 2005 Hello, OK, i am getting a Wi-FI smartphone and heard that you can get cheap calls on it through SKYPE on your PC. I have a wireless router which feeds my PC and Xbox, so how can i set up my mobile to receive Skype ? I obviously download a version of Skype ? I have no idea what to do next, any tips would be appreciated.
Guest Kinch Posted October 19, 2005 Report Posted October 19, 2005 (edited) Just thought, will it eat up my free minutes, or is there a way of getting round this ???? Edited October 19, 2005 by Kinch

You'll have your own IP address, essentially the same as the PC version. You're not making a phone call Not sure about using the phone as a glorfied (skype)handset, which is I think what you were getting at. Think there is a version (all be it beta) for the smartphone, but I can't check here "interent telephony" is blocked

As far as I can remember they used the PPC version successfully. My only question (that I never bothered to ask  ) was how a smartphone can run it given they only have a 200mhz proc and skype requires a min of 400 mhz. Unless the new 200s run better, who knows ? any way head over to msmobiles.com and someone there should at least be able to point you you the artical I read. hth gerryR
Guest gilesjuk Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 If you use the PPC version on the Smartphone you need a PC to control it as there's no touch screen on the phone. So it's pointless.

I do and it works fine. Cheers.
