C500 smartphone

Hi to all on the Forum,

Its been a while since I posted here so I hope I have put this post in the right place, my appologies if not. I have just aqquired a second hand C500 phone and was wondering if the forum could enlighten me on a few things. Firstly I have done a few registry mods before on other SPV phones but was wondering if its possible on the C500 just like for example as it was on the E100 and E200 handsets. I have a Big Ben hourly time chime and was kinda wondering if its possible to get this to chime on the hour in conjunction with the phone clock. Also I have some small animated gif pictures on my pc at home that I have resized smaller in an attempt to use as an animated home screen unfortunatly they dont seem to work and freeze up. Also with some themes I have installed on the Phone as in the past with other Phone it seems that once installed you cannot change or remove the theme/ menus etc without unistalling the theme and in some cases even then it leaves some menus behind. Is there a way to toggle between theme and home screen to change the whole theme back to for instance a normal orange setup as previously installed on the phone without a hard reset of the phone.

Lastly with all modifications done in the past is there a way to back up the programs and registry just for instance as you would on a home pc, like sort of saving a snapshot of your drive on your home pc in case of unrecoverable error's etc. I cant find the registry on the phone as it doesnt have the equivalent of a system or system 32 file at all. Where would the registry settings be??

Sorry for all the questions members and for bearing with me. If someone could answer at least some of these I would appreciate it as I have done a lot of searching here and on google and not come up with a great deal.

Coincidently how do you install the talking keypads on the C500. I tried installing the cab files and it returned an error message - this program is not intended for this phone??

Welcome back to the forum :D

1. Yes, you can edit the registry on the C500 and could use the usual PHM Registry Editor that you may already be familiar with. There is also now an excellent alternative - Smartione - which you should find easily with a search here.

2. Not a reg. editor myself so wouldn't know about the chimes thing.

3. You won't get animated gifs to work on the homescreen although there are commercial alternatives. Have a look at these :

4. If you have installed a skin by cab or home file it is always best to uninstall it before changing to another. If you need to get rid of rogue screens without a hard reset you can run Midnight's acclaimed home_restore_cab which I'll attach here :

5. There are 2 full backup programs which will restore all settings etc after a hard reset and can be found on Handango etc - Sprite, which is excellent and I rely on, and All-Locations, which I have never tried and which has its critics. The thing to remember though is that if you back up a corrupt registry, it will be that one you reinstall.

6. Assuming your C500 is application-unlocked I would advise checking that the cab files are compatible with 2003 OS devices. I would imagine the original thread would cover this consideration.
