Guest kklick Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 Ok guys I'm looking for some help here. I've got the ruttensoft home screen designer. I've designed my themes with it but they are missing some plugins that I want in there. I've managed to take the .hme file apart or use the xml file to rerwrite it they I want. I've tried just loading the xml file as stated in some other threads but they will not run or load on my phone like that. Question is, is there a way to edit the original .hme file while still leaving it intact so it will function correctly after editing the xml portion. Question two is, if I have all the proper files is there a way to create a new .hme file so it will run on the phone. Thanks kevin

Thus, you have to 'unpack' it first, edit the component/s you want edited then re-compile. 2. You can easily recompile homescreen files using third-party PC software like SmartArchiver. SmartArchiver supports HME and CAB file creation. So my suggestion is to extract the XXX.home.xml part of the HME/CAB, edit the XML to include your desired plugin/s then recompile. ;) I posted an article about SmartArchiver here: http://www.gpcarreon.com/?p=149 You can check the author's page at: http://smartgv.gavoille.com/logiciel.php?soft=smartarchiver

Thats a slick little program. Still one problem though. If I try to recreate the .hme with that program it writes its own install file. I can only find one variable that is different between the original install file and the one the program creates. This is causing the theme to not load onto the phone. I've tried adding the original setup file to the screen when building the .hme but it still writes another and adds to it. Here is the descrepency that I can see between the two. Original. " " new file created " " In the "NumDirs" the original has a value of 2, the new created file has a value of 1. You said, "So my suggestion is to extract the XXX.home.xml part of the HME/CAB, edit the XML to include your desired plugin/s then recompile." My main question is how do you recompile your xml files back into .hme files I've tried creating a folder containg what needs to go into the .hme and then renaming the folder to .hme but that doesn't seem to work either.
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 You are saying that the HME created by the program didn't install on your phone (i930) ? I have no idea about the details on how the program compiles homescreen files into HME. How come Ruttensoft have 2 installation DIRs while SmartArchiver only has 1 etc etc. To be honest I'm not so much into HME files. I prepare homescreen files in CAB format. If you can install CAB files easily on your phone, my next suggestion would be to do it manually. On your spare time, learn how to create you own CAB file: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....2homescreen.asp With CAB, all settings can be controlled via the INF file. ;)

(i930) Actually theres not much at all that you can install on this thing. :D I thought about saving and istallling cab files but most of those need to be certified to load onto the i930. Without an application unlock this thing is kind of useless to outside programs. Well I'll keep looking around and see what I can find. I know the answer is out there just got to find it. Thanks for the input and the link.
