The worst kept secret is finally out... the C600 is coming!

Posted here by Orange France, the Orange site lists the specification as follows:

Windows Mobile 5

Quad Band

EDGE/GPRS

1.3MP Camera

Size: 107.7 x 45.9 x 18.8mm

Standy Time: 6 Days

Talk Time: 4 hours

Volume: 93 cc

Weight: 105g

After weeks of speculation... it is now confirmed that the C600 - a HTC Faraday based device - does NOT include WiFi.

Despite this... it's one sexy device!

Will there be a way to get WM5 from this to upgrade the c550? or is this illegal if possible?

Always did prefer the C500 look 'n' Feel, was never 100% happy withthe C550.

Fun fact of the day: The C600 fits in the Brodit C500 holder (rejoice!)

"sexy" -  You have to be joking Paul

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I have to agree with Paul on this one, it is one sexy device! It looks just like the c500 & everyone loves the look of their c500! Ok its no Qtek 8310 but its still good looking.

Its just a shame this wasn't the c500. Everything is so behind the times in comparisson to other phones (apart from the OS of course). Nothing is revolutionary, if the device had WiFi it would have given it another tick for a worthy advancement, but alas O have decided to drop it, so it looses that merit.

It's going to be very interesting to see what HTC plan to do next because it almost seems like they've run out of ideas for the time being, on the smartphone front at least.

Anyways rant over, bottom line is, i like the look of it, my c500 has had its day & there really isn't anything else i want apart from a good smartphone on Orange with wm 5.0.

So c600 here i come.... ;)

I love it!

I think the C500 looked great, and the grey finish of the C600 is lovely too.

Having held both this and a real Tornado (a-la-iMate SP5 / QTek 8310), the Tornado is obviously even more sexy ;)

Hmmm this may make me move to O2 or Voda as they are advertising the full Tornado with Wi-fi and for free HERE!....why are Orange selling us short?

What!?!! No WIFI

I'll just have to wait longer I guess. Good news. the company I'm working for has decided to go state of the art with gadgets so I'll have a really cool MS phone with all the trimmings pretty soonish.

The lack of Wi-Fi and that amazing O2 deal posted above looks like I might sack in my plans of getting a C600. I think the SP5 looks better anyway. ;)

Out of interest though, is there anything on the Orange software side that would make it more attractive than the i-Mate phone?

Its a shame the phone is missing wifi but its not the end of the world because of it , one important thing to remember is all the games and applications that do not run on the C550 will also not run on this baby that includes tomtom ;)

Fools! This has to be one of the worst product management decisions Orange has ever made. Why take a device that had the capability of Wi-Fi and DELIBERATELY choose not to include it?

As a PAYG customer having to pay for my phones, there is not sufficient difference between this and the C500 to warrant me selling my C500 on ebay and getting one of these. Why would I sell a phone that runs 99% of all Smartphone apps for one that runs about 20% but has a better camera and screen? I would have been prepared to make the sacrifice for Wi-Fi.

Now I have to suffer it's uglier and presumably more expensive cousin, the i-mate SP5.

Bleugh...

Cost?

Whatever the reason, they have taken the HTC FARADAY as opposed to the HTC TORNADO, and so are taking a device without WiFi, rather than choosing not to include it.

I would have loved to have see a Tornado based device too... ;)

Well the design is the same as C500 (except a few changes of the keys) and yes it is sexy :D

cant wait till i get this next month when one of my mobile contract expires :D so i have 2xc500, 1xe200 and hopefully 1xc600 :D

shame no wifi :( but at least it has WM5! (finally)

I guess HTC went back to the "if it aint broke, dont fix it" routine... ;)

No Wifi? Remind me again, what's the point? The future might be bright, but it sure as hell isn't Orange.

Shocking that they dropped Wifi. The SPV C-series has always been low cost for the features, by comparison to Nokia Symbian handsets. A slightly higher cost would have brought the price line level with S60 but with the benefits of better hardware and software!

I've stuck with Orange for the last 10 years.

I think this is a water shed moment for me to leave. If I can get the wifi enabled MS smartphone (can't remember the name) on O2 as pointed out by Capt. Janeway in her post, for free on a 30 pound a month tarriff, I will.

I am not crazy for software, so the upgraded OS in the C600 is not such a big deal for me. What I am crazy for in a phone is hardware: Wifi especially. Oh well, Orange can kiss my loyal a$$ good bye.

will it really not run tomtom? even tomtom5? i get a free upgrade any minute now and was planning on hanging on for the c600 - but if it won't run tomtom maybe i should go symbian?

ideas please?

Posted

the current version of tomtom does not work , its about time tomtom supported these new phones , they have had enough time , i shall not myself buy tomtom again , the after sales service sucks

couple of questions....

do we know when this phone will be released? and what have they done with the status led up top?

well after much angonizing i have decided to give the windows smartphoe platform a year of to sort its self out & have upgraded to a se k600i & tbh i dont think i will miss wm one bit.

yes i know that there is not internal storage but i was geting hacked off with keep powerning down the phone( boy does this phone boot up quick !!!) to change sd cards , the bt suport is much better ,it syncs with oulook over bt with hardly any setup.

i have a dell axim so i can use that for music, films & wifi access, so unless wm really pulls its socks up i cannot see me returning to smartphone for quite a while.

i did staywith orange as i get 3months of 1gb 3g access for nothing.

also i dont think that the looks of the c600 are much better than the c500 ( which is on ebay if anyone is interested with a 256mb mini sd card).

Hmmm, no WiFi on this device plus Orange to start billing for 0800 calls in Dec. I can't see any reason to stay...........

If other networks had not included the wifi module, it wouldn't bother me so much. As it is, Orange just don't seem to want to be competitive in the WM market any more.

It's a shame. If I had a choice, I would switch network. As it is, my place of work picks the network. However, I am now going to look very carefully over the competition OSs/handsets and see if anything stands out.

I was certainly going to upgrade to the C600 if it had wifi, but without it, the upgrade doesn't seem so great right now.

* Quad band (not much use for me, personally - I've only ever needed tri).

* 320x240 screen (currently as much of a hindrance as a benefit, due to software support, although hopefully this will change soon).

* WM5 (I'm not sure of compatibility, but it's not a real immediate benefit).

I just don't really want to "upgrade" and find myself with the same, or less functionality. In my opinion, the C500 towered over the other handsets available last year (other than the camera). This is certainly not the case with the C600.

In a word: disappointed.
