Not content with just revealing the C600 on this page... it seems as though Orange France are also prepping the HTC Wizard for release as the SPV M3000!

Featuring EDGE (like the C600) - perfect for Orange France where EDGE is being aggressively rolled out (unlike the UK) - the M3000 builds on the fantastic M500 device with a new horizontally sliding keyboard, integrated WiFi, Quad Band radio and Windows Mobile 5!

In the tiny thumbnail on the Orange France site at least, it looks like Orange have giving it a subtle yet effective makeover ;)

More importantly, why would you want EDGE in your phone when you can't really use it in the UK ;)

EDGE is easier to roll out than 3G since it is an upgrade to existing BTS' in a much less major way than 3G!

But, as previously stated, there are no plans to roll it out in the UK, except perhaps as 3G fill-in.

Do you guys have ANY clue when the M3000 might be available in the UK?

I'm pretty sure that most of Oranges base stations are already able to run EDGE and they just need to switch it on. Vodafone did some trials in Southampton on EDGE and the speed varied between worst than GPRS to about 100K !

Your right though it will be used to fill in the gaps in 3G coverage so the drop back to GPRS doesn't feel as restrictive.

Orange need to relesase the 3000 now in the UK, or I'm moving to the darkside (or 02)

Just to make all of you in the UK feel better, I'm with Orange in France and when I asked customer services about EDGE, they had no idea what it was, didn't seem to know which phones were compatible if any, and kept thinking I must be talking about 3G.

Looks like all Orange customer service agents are trained at the same place then.

I've had a play with the Wizard and i can't wait to get my hands on one. I've heard T-mob are taking it on as well, so i may upgrade my MDA-compact after all! (especially with the web and walk (?) promotion)

Thats my plan too, wait till its out on t-mob and then upgrade and be happy for a while ;) lol

t-mob web and walk price plans are a rip-off!!!

Web 'n' walk price plans

You get 40MB of data but the overall cost is very steep. Best avoided methinks............

(PS their customer services are 50ppm upto a max of £5 - excellent value. For them :?: :?:

I personally thought £30 for 40meg gprs and 100 xnet minutes was pretty good, especially when u consider that it's half price for the first six months, last three months, and as long as you don't upgrade/change tariff thereafter.

Also I've been told that the customer service charge of 50p a minute is ONLY if u take up the self service discount (£2 off a month I think?).

Anyway, back on topic I'm glad to hear Orange are likely to bring out the Wizard. The more competition the better for all...
