newbie needs help

i have dld one of the home screen themes and follow the instructions, however when i then select it in the home screen section the phone does not accept it and says

no home screen layouts can be found. install a valid home screen then select it ................................bla bla bla

I have tried two different homescreens and get this can some one tell me what i am doing wrong thanx

also when i try to install an alarm program i find it stored on my phone click the cab file it installs (i think) but then i cant find it anywhere??? So if anyone can give me an idiots guide i would be gratefull

your find some Home screen don't work eg. not made for your phone.

and cab will nomally install to root (Storage) /Program Files
