Can one turn GPRS off permanently?

Im not thrilled with getting nickel'd and dime'd everytime I want to connect so I cancelled the data plan. Id like to remove the thought of using it for good or atleast till the plans are sensible at a later time. And I have hope that the Wifi mini SD card will come to the market as I saw on msmobiles. Any hints???

You can ask the network to disable GPRS, it's what I have done in the past.
