TomTom mobile v4 shows no GPS device

I'm using a Polstar BT GPS receiver renamed as "TomTom Wireless GPS" to replace my old one. It worked fine on the old rom version 4.1.1.4, but I had to upgrade to Windows Media Player 10 didn't I.

Since the rom upgrade I have noticed that the COM ports are setup on the phone very differently, i.e. you can enable the incoming COM6, but have to wait for the pairing of a BT device before you can assign it with the outgoing COM7.

Does anyone know what I can do, I'd even sacrifice going back to WMP9 by downgrading the SPV C500 ROM version if I have to (that's assuming it's possible) as using TomTom is far more important than being able to select the albums of my MP3 folders.

When you pair the device allow it set up its own serial port. dont touch anything in the new com port settings.

That should do it

Cheers,

I tried that, but there was one other thing that I forgot to mention.

Every time I exit TomTom, the pairing of the GPS receiver dissapears in the Blutooth devices menu.

Does the TomTom Mobile bluetooth gps that came with it work?

I get the same problem with 4.2.1.2 and a BT GPS, it cannot keep the pairing. It doesn't seem to be an issue with TomTom, its the phone that won't keep the pairing. If it could I've no doubt TomTom will see it.

muffking - it is possible to downgrade to 4.1.1.4, I've already done it once and TT4 works fine (same software, same GPS unit).

Well, that behaviour is known from TomTom Mobile 5, renaming the pairing to "BT GPS" solves that. But since you have v4, that shouldnt apply. Couldn't hurt trying though....

Normally renaming the new GPS device to TomTom Wireless GPS works with me using v4, but like Miniman99 says, the phone deletes the pairing of the GPS device when you run TomTom.

I tried running the v4.1.1.4 ROM file, but it came back with an error due to my phone having the newer v4.2.1.2 rom.

Miniman99: I'd be interested to know if you still have the old rom file or URL where I can download it just in case it's different to mine as I'm now desperate to go back to an older rom.

Many folks have said that on the new rom you don't need to pair the GPS device at all, just let TomTom Mobile find it. Is this not so?

Cheers MiniMan

It took a while, but I used the post in the link to allow the phone to install an older rom. So I'm back to running 4.1.1.4 again with WMP9, but at least I can use TomTom4 again. Thanks mate.
