Also any more joy with the screen potectors??

I have a JavoEdge Magician screen protector on my Vario. It fits fine since the screens are the same size.

Hi,

Has anyone found a decent car mount for the phone yet, can't really use TomTom yet until i can see the phone whilst driving.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Carcomm in Holland produce excellent car charges/cradles.

I had one for my MDA Compact - both holder, and windscreen sucker mechanism are excellent.

They have one for the 9100/Vario/MiniS etc, in about 6 weeks.

Selling via Expansys.

Just came across this on the mobile fun site...

http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/8307.htm

but at nearly £20 plus another £10 for a suction mount (which I'd need, no way am I drilling into my dashboard!) it's not cheap.

Anyone found anything good yet???

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

That style of suction mount falls off very easily.

And no power on the charger.

I'm using a generic clip one until the carcomm one arrives as Expansys.

How do the carcomm mounts attach to the car. As mentioned, I really don't want to go drilling holes into my new dashboard. What are my options though??

I've got a Brodit Proclip for my Ford Focus. It was about £15 on Ebay. This is a lot for a bent bit of plastic, but its just the right size to slide in between two gaps in the dashboard. It fits really securely, but you can remove it without causing any visible damage. I've got a bracket for my MDA Vario on order from PDA Hut which should arrive today. This should then clip it on securely.

Brodit also list a bracket for holding the Vario with the keyboard open. However, my main use for having it in the car is to use CoPilot and the screen layout for that has been optimised for a portrait screen rather than a landscape one.

I had a mount with a suction cup for a PocketPC and for fitting into a Ford Focus it was completely useless. It would fall off if you stuck it to the dashboard and the only bit of glass where you could it was on the drivers side window. I programmed my route in to get home from an airport car park, set off, got to the ticket barrier, opened the window and the mount fell off

I've had this bracket for a week or so now and it is fine. The only thing is that if you push the phone down too far into the bracket the button for the camera gets pressed on. I might take a file to the plastic near there to stop this from happening.

Is the Brodit clip the type that screws into the dash? I am after something that will attach to the dash somehow but with no lasting damage.

My C500 attached nicely with a couple of magnets stuck on and a thin piece of metal between the battery and the back cover. Worked a treat but obviously I have to look to alternative means now as the portrait / landscape mode is triggered by a magnet on the Qtek 9100.

The bracket comes in two parts. One bit is specific to the exact model of car. With my Focus, it slides in between the join between two bits of the dashboard so that you can remove it without visible damage. The second part is specific to the phone or PDA. You then screw this into the car-specific bit.

The combination of the two parts means that you get something that fits both the car and the PDA/phone securely, but you can remove them with no damage to the car. If you change car or phone, you only have to replace one half.

They are very expensive for two bits of bent plastic (~ £15-25 each), but for the benefit of having a secure mounting in just the right place, then for me it is worth it.

Does anyone have any pics of these or other car mounts they can add? I know some sites have pics but can't really get a great idea from them - much better to see the real thing if anyone may be so kind :)

I searched for Brodit Proclip on Google's Images collection and found a number of sites there which show them being installed, as well as in place.

Dashmount (www.dashmount.co.uk) have some great metal mounting brackets for a pretty big range of cars. My dad bought one and the quality is great. UNfortunately, they don't do one for my model of Nissan Micra, so looks like it's a proclip for me!

Yep, I was kind of hoping for images showing the Qtek / Vario in situ though rather than the many images showing other models that it threw up when I searched google images the same as you did.

Hi all,

Try www.ADVERTISING SPAM.com

Ordered their alu case and car mount for a total of £25 inc postage ot the UK, should be here this week... Looks really good and the alu case is getting rave reviews...

As far as screen protectors go, the Vario supplied one is terrible, so I'm looking for a solution too...

Any idea if these Martin Fields protectors any good?

Cheers,

I have the ADVERTISING SPAM aluminium case, and while great for carrying around, it will be useless for in car mounting (for me anyway) because you can't use the touch screen through it. This makes TomTom useless.

BTW the belt clip that comes with the ADVERTISING SPAM case is quite sucky - it is easier to unscrew the cirular clip from the case than detach the car/clip from the belt grip.

I'm going to keep the ADVERTISING SPAM case, and need a new solution for mounting the Wizard in the car. Unfortunately, it looks like it will cost me £25 for half a job - http://shop.dashmount.co.uk/lotus.asp

Wish I had a focus now :)

What's the suction cup like, is it quite strong? Think I might get one, good price and as along as it does the job it was intended for.

Brodit make very good mounts and the their custom grille mounts fit around the grille rather than the weak ones that clip onto the fins.

The other advantage is that you can buy the grille fitting seperately so if you change car then you only need to change one component.

The only downside for me was that I had to modify my vent mount as the clip was not designed correctly for the Ford Galaxy :)

A quick bit of trimming and it's very sturdy.

I find it very good. It won't survive if a small child or chimpanzee swung off it but it'll do the job for a Compact or Vario like I have got :)

I've got mine stuck to the bottom of the windscreen, to the right of my sterring wheel and the 'gooseneck' goes along the top of my dash and the holder slightly overhangs the front of my dashboard. I'm lucky as my dash seems the perfect depth for this (i've got a 3 series) and I don't suffer from 'wobbly device syndrome' when driving.
