MPx220 worth buying?

Seeing these go for not much more than £100 on ebay and was thinking about picking one up. Used to have an I-mate Jam but I work with oil so keeping it clean was a nightmare, hence the need for a clam shell smartphone.

I've read up on the shortcomings but will flash it with the latest asian ROM etc to workaround the volume problems.

Will I regret my purchase? Are there any other clamshell smartphones out there?

if you want a clamshell phone then its ok , has its bugs as do all the smartphones , has the older wm 2003se rom on it as well, best to check the section on modaco and see if its what you want ;)

I reckon it's the best little phone available for £100 at the moment.

Pros

Small, light, stylish, flip, powerful

Cons

Initial set up. Only buy this phone if you like gadgets and have plenty patience. You will have to get the latest ROM for it, and install plenty of software etc from this site to get it to look and work at it's best for you. Otherwise you will be tearing your hair out.

Thanks all, bit the bullet and got a brand new one on ebay for £120 with a free motorola BT headset, can't grumble about that.

I'll be putting the latest asian rom on (3.51) before I even turn it on! as I understand it, I'll have to unbrand the phone (homescreen, startup/shutdown), set correct language, remove the "emergency service" contact, change the fonts and sort out my reversed addresses. Anything else I should be aware of?

I had trouble with the Asian one in that it wouldn't come out of flight mode one day.

My review of the MPx220

Good:

Nice looking (in black)

External card slot

Keyboard not bad

Phone charges from datacable.

Standard 2.5mm headset

Tomtom Mobile works fine.

Fast CPU.

Bad:

Quiet earphone speaker and the loudspeaker clips (clicks) with loud sounds

Camera very variable and the video is very very grainy

External card slot hatch is tricky (requires a coin or a long fingernail to get the card in and out).

Custom datacable (I prefer mini USB).

Display is smaller than the MPx200 and the iMate SP3

Appears to be no Vsync in games (artifacts when scrolling), iMate SP3 doesn't do this.

External display is blank when dimmed, OLED or LCD would have been better.

Firmware stability varies
