recover files from PPC 2003 that needs a hard rese

Installed a VPN client today that needed a reboot, while rebooting its stuck on the rom page and a soft reset won't bring it back to life.

pretty sure its gonna to need a hard reset but before I do is there any clever way I can get the data off the device, maybe some 3rd party app that can connect through the cradle or something?

Phone is a Orange SPV M2000 running PPC 2003
