Restoring contacts in mpx220

Recommended Posts

Just downloaded the new 1.4 version ROM update for my mpx220. Everything went smoothly, including the backup process. After restoring, everyting is there EXCEPT the most important thing....my contact list. Does anyone have a recommendation for restoring the contact list that was backup during the update process?

Don't you synchronize your contacts with MS Outlook? If you did then by plugging the phone back to the pc and running active sync you could get your contacts transfered back to the phone.

During the sync. you do, but during the backup process, it does not ask where or what to back up to. Needless to say, the contacts in my outlook are not the same as the ones on this phone, which happens to be my daughters.

Forgive me if I'm worng, but doesn't the ROM installer tell you to backup your Contacts before you do the update ?

I noticed when I updated to 1.43.0.0 that the update program offered to back p the phones data for me. Being use to not having this option, I chose not to use it and to reinstall everything on my phone manually inc contacts by Sync with Outlook. Did you choose to use the installers backup? Is the problem that the backup restored everything it should have except the contact list?

To summerise to first post, the only thing you can do is enter all the numbers back in one at a time. Unless they are backed up on a pc somewhere, once a contact has been removed from the phone it can never be restored.

That's exactly what happened. All the other settings, pictures, etc were restored, but no contacts.

Have you tried running the update wizard again to see if there is a restore optoin before installing the update?

Yes, but when the software checks the phone for the ROM version and sees that the current version is already loaded, it ends the install process before it gets to the backup.

There is a way to "trick" the tool into thinking that the phone has an older ROM. I'm not sure if this would do any good as re-flashing your phone would probably mean creating a new backup, which would have none of your contacts. You could try it to see if it gives you a restore option. If you need the file PM me your email address.

Moderators - would I be able to create a post on how to trick the update tool to enable a re-flash? It would require attaching a systeminfo.xml file.
