Help!

My c500 has twice now crashed followed by a cold boot reboot that takes ages, puts up the phrase Configuring Device with a % progress bar, then eventually starts up in a factory reset state. It forgets everything it knows and I have to restore contacts etc from Outlook. Also have to reinstall programs.

Anyone else had this problem? What should I do?

TIA

J

Same thing has happened with my C550 recently

Normally I would suggest you pay more attention to phone memory and stop installing too many ringtones and homescreens and get your old messages weeded out..................but that didn't save me !

I haven't installed any software that is known for problems and don't let my battery get below 50%. It has happened when I have replaced the battery after transferring MP3s to the mini-SD and powered up. Perhaps it is a problem with dodgy (dirty ?) contacts - Pocket PCs can hard reset in this situation.

What I would recommend you do now is a proper hard reset. We can never know for sure what got wiped in the process and what manner of corrupted data might still be lurking on the phone.

Then I would pray to your god that it doesn't happen again too soon ;)

Hopefully you'd check that I was a ringtone downloadin' homescreen installin' dumbass first. I'm not.

Same here. The only software I have that worries me is xbar. Poor contacts have been a problem for me with my memory card requiring firm reseating. But the problem with things like this is that they are rare and apparently hard to replicate. I suspect it's hard- rather than software. Perhaps it's the one year automatic failure clock kicking in a month or so early!

Good idea. Maybe a good time to update to the newer ROM. I held off cos I used to use TCMP for WMA files, but I've moved to OGG for size/quality so that's not a factor anymore.

Perhaps if I *had* a god it would not have happened in the first case. We really need a god of gadgets for this kind of thing.

There's nothing more I can add really.

I would say that xBar is very popular and probably not to blame, but as you say, it seems impossible to replicate the problem.

Every time it happens I swear I'm dropping the whole Windows Mobile platform but....you know... ;)
