Guest bretto Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 Here is a new idea (well I think its new). How nice would it be to have your PC notify your PPC via BT or some other conectivity when a task has been completed. For example: Your running a large accounting payroll or compiling a large program suite. For all intesive purposes your PC is now unavailable to you until the job is done. So being a good worker you decide you will go off and be productive doing something else and possibly somewhere else. As it stands now you have to keep checking to see if the process has completed. But what if the PC was setup to "watch" the task and send info to your PPC when its done. Now that would be something. Any takers?
Guest thereaperman Posted November 3, 2005 Report Posted November 3, 2005 sounds like a good idea, but how would it send the info??, wifi, bt, over the net sms etc??
Guest chucky.egg Posted November 3, 2005 Report Posted November 3, 2005 And how would it know that the task had completed? (other than watching a process start and then close) Interesting idea though

As for how would you know...tricky at best but Ive been giving this some thought... If there is a way to intercept the calls to the os for things like messagebox then we might be in business. There must be because the same program running xp or 2003 can call os resources that are different in appearance etc. The application doesnt contain them but get them from the os I believe. Apps like anti-virus software I think use interupts to tell when certain events like copying files are ocurring so maybe there is a way also. Actually if you could sniff the message queue like packet sniffers do with tcpip that would be the way to go.
Guest Tech Posted November 3, 2005 Report Posted November 3, 2005 im sure i can do it, since i made a WMP Remote for the smartphone thing is.. it all depends on the API's of the application you wish to "monitor" ;)
