Guest TOPGUN1988 Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 Hi again everyone! I was just wondering what that "Beam" function is. I have a motorolla MPx200 and recently upgraded to Windows Mobile 2003 and i noticed a "Beam" selection in the Settings Menu. I don't recall having it seen when i used the built in Windows Mobile 2002 version... What is this beam? I opened it and there's only a checkbox that enables "Receive incoming beams". I also noticed that it sucks out half the battery life... I don't believe it has anything to do with the infrared port... So, is there another way to receive data through that? I also don't think it has anything to do with bluetooth beams because the MPx200 doesn't have bluetooth. Another thing, is that unexpectedly, when i am listening to music on my pc that characteristic sound on the speakers comes up which happens when a mobile phone is receiving SMS or a call. Weird thing is there's no one calling and no SMS received ;) .. this sound just comes up and stops few seconds later.. Why is this happening? Does this have to do anything with beam??? (It happened more than a few times, that's why I'm asking) please help!!!
Guest hotphil Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 As you say, it is the infrared beam option.
Guest TOPGUN1988 Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 As you say, it is the infrared beam option. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ;) Sound comes up even when beam is not enabled, and no one sending any file via infrared..

Perhaps one of the problems of using an illegal ROM... Not sure much discussion/support is allowed.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 I don't believe it has anything to do with the infrared port... It is the controller for accepting IR transmissions and it is well known for being a battery killer. One of the fun aspects of using unofficial and untested updates on the phone.
