Getting out of Orange contract

Hi,

I recently upgraded from an SPV C500 to an M500, after almost 3 months i've decided that it's more than i really need and i miss the keypad of the C500, so i ordered an SPV C550 on Pay as you go and put the M500 on ebay.

The C550 gives me 1000 free texts +1mb GPRS a month as long as i top up with £30 a month, this to me seems a better deal than the current setup 200 minutes + 500 texts + insurance + GPRS bundle which comes in at around £40 a month. I'm a high relatively high spender (most bills around £150) but really want to cut back. Is the Highspeed data £10 a month tariff still around? if not what are my alternatives?

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong area!

Thanks for any help,

You spend £150/month? OMG. Hve you heard of 1899.com or onetel. They do calling cards through Orange which are free (at the moment) on a contract. You just pay for calls. A landline call with 1899 costs 3p connection and then is free

Additionally 3 give great value; I have wrangled 500 x-network anytime minutes for £11.66/month direct from 3.......

Look at www.moneysavingexpert.com for more saving tips ;)

After 3 months you're going to have a bit of a bill to get out of the contract.

I think (depending on where you got it) you can't change your tariff to a lower one for the first 6 months, so I would suggest:

1) Check that's the case for you

2) Wait 3 months and pick the cheapest tariff you can get at that time

3) Wait one more billing period and then cancel the contract

Doing it that way means that you'll have to pay:

3 more months at your current contract rate

1 month at the lower tariff rate

5 more months at the lower rate in one lump to cancel the contract

I tried to do this once and they told me that I would have to pay the monthly subscritpion for the remaining time on my 12 month contract to cancel. V. expensive BUT if you do your maths you may be able to prove that you can save on doing it, especially if you get to keep the phone & sell it. Be careful of some unforseen costs though, such as extra expenses on your new tariff (i.e. going over free txts/minutes), or if you keep the phone & go with a SIM free tariff, you may later be tempted by a Sparkly new phone model ££££;)
