Guest nedge2k Posted November 3, 2005 Report Posted November 3, 2005 You may or may not have noticed, i aint been very active on here of late. Weeelllllllll........ Remember the cat i found a while back? Turned out to be next door's cat. Long story short, she preferred us to them so kinda stayed. Then my misus found out she was goin to have to go to Leicester for med school so i decided to pack-in my motorsport course and go with her to start a comp science course. The day we moved, went to take the cat back to the neighbours as nothing was ever officially said about the cat being "ours". Next thing i knew they were telling me to either keep the cat or they'd take it to the RSPCA. "Great, we get to keep her" i thought...not so. New flat we were moving to doesnt allow pets. Not being one for rules, i thought screw it, she's comming so i wandered off to pets world and got a carry case for her (All of this is happening last minute on moving day btw  ). So, we finish loading the van in Swansea at 5pm and head off to the petrol station. At this point the cat is going mental. Got to the petrol station 10 mins later and the cat wasn't alone in her cage...she'd got a bit too scared. So i take her off to the petrol station toilets and try my best to clean her and the cage, which wasnt fun. 45 mins later, we head off. The cat is now making some seriously f**ked up noises and we're getting worried she might have a heart attack or something. We turn back but there's a problem, we posted our keys through the letterbox...we're kinda screwed. We head over to pets world to see if they have any sedatives or advice or anything to help the situation...6:30...closed...bugger. So we ring a vet who said for the princley sum of £130, they'd check the cat over but couldnt promise they'd sedate her as it might kill her :| Being absolutely skint due to the move, we were at a bit of a loss. So i bit the bullet and called the RSPCA who really tried their best to make me feel as bad as possible for trying to give the cat up. I said to them, "we have a 4 hour drive ahead of us, no-body we know is able to take the cat, her original owners dont want her and we dont trust them to look after her and if we do just drive, we're worried she might have a heart attack!" After alot of um'ing and ar'ing they said, we'll get and inspector to call you. Fine i said. It's now 8:30. Half hour later we get a call from the RSPCA inspector who, by the way, was wicked. Straight to the point, chuck a blanket over the cage and drive. Eventually the motion of the car will calm her down...and it did...and how stupid did we feel  Three hours of thinking, if we continue on, the cat could die  So off we go, the cat calms down and we roll into Leicester at about half midnight. We proceed to unload the van, in the pitch black, which took another 2 and a half hours. We were so knackered after everything, we couldnt be assed to build the bed so we had to sleep on the floor...but not before i had to clean up after the cat again :?: The next day all is well, im trying to setup all the tecchy bits but there's a problem. Bulldog, who said "by the time you're moved into your new house, the phone line and broadband will be ready". WRONG! Moved in on the 9th Sept. 47 days later, we get what was promised :?: Moral of this incredibly long story? MOVING HOUSE IS GAY! :D If you're moving house with a pet for the first time, dont let the blood curdling cries sway you, chuck a blanket over it...it'll shut up eventually ;) If you want 8 meg broadband, dont go to bulldog...but then you prolly already know that. Despite the warnings, i still went with them and tbh...they aint that bad. Yes 47 days is far too long but alot of that was down to the dumbass BT engineer who didnt bother installing the line the first time round  Only reason i went with them instead of F2S is because the misus winged about having a landline Anyway, all is cool now and the cat is happy as a pig in...swill, the flat is nice and shiny after a blowout in ikea the other week and 8meg kicks ass :D l8rs all
Guest fraser Posted November 3, 2005 Report Posted November 3, 2005 You were right to be paranoid. A friend of mine had a six hour drive when moving house and the stress of it killed one of her cats. That, and the sweet tasting coolant leak it enjoyed lapping at off the car floor...
Guest beersoft Posted November 3, 2005 Report Posted November 3, 2005 And i thought you had got your self arrested again :S or spent too much time drinking in the great club/pub that is "street Life" ;) welcome back (you lazy student) later Owen

And don't worry about Nedge showing off about 24Meg... I posted an article link in the BlueYonder newsgroups recently, that stated its been reverse engineered and found that in reality, likely only people living 300m from the local exchange can ever dream of getting this speed of 24Meg - indeed, only a measly 45% of people will even manage 8MB on ADSL. See: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/01112005/175/24mb...dband-myth.html or: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4399330.stm Meantime, I'll stick with my blinding uncapped 10MB...
Guest nedge2k Posted November 3, 2005 Report Posted November 3, 2005 (edited) Yes i am fully aware of that...and i only live 400 yards from the exchange ;) In reality i'll still only get 22.5meg but i'll be happy. http://adsl.yesyes.info/modules/xoopsfaq/i...php?cat_id=2#q2 :D Edited November 3, 2005 by nedge2k
